Riff: Soundgarden – “Bones of Birds”

Nov 12, 2012

Tried to build on bones of birds/Singing in the cold and fall to earth

from Bones of Birds lyrics by Soundgarden

“Bones of Birds” has the appeal of both SG’s past hits “Fell on Black Days” and “Black Hole Sun” combined. Its slow, melancholic odd-time grooves build over guitar harmonics and Cornell’s apathetically bleak lyrics, sung with a mix of his classic style and Alice In Chains harmonies below.

You nailed it–couldn’t have describedit any better. This will probably be a big hit single, but I think it is the best song on the album.

Thank you! Also, I agree exactly with what you said – it’s not going to get the radio / label love that “Been Away For Too Long” obviously will, but it’s just a killer song, definitely better (and more classic Soundgarden) than the single.
