Sheryl Crow was thought to be dead by a Twitter user, saying she must be “rolling in her grave” over her rumored ex-boyfriend Kid Rock‘s run for United States Senate. Crow responded the way any songwriter with a sense of humor would respond — by writing a song about it.
It seems President Donald Trump has inspired other celebrities to run for political office, including Kanye West, who said he’ll be running for president of the United States in 2024, and Caitlyn Jenner, who is open to a senatorial run. But the most recent famous person to throw their inexperienced hat into the political ring is rapper-turned-country-singer Kid Rock, who is, most definitely, running for a spot in the US Senate.
The Twitter user tweeted a photo Friday that said, “Kid Rock ’18 for US Senate.”
“Oh man,” he said. “@SherylCrow must be rolling in her grave right now.”
Crow responded with one sentence: “Dude, I’m still alive.”
It’s not clear if the Twitter user actually thought Crow had died, or if he was just trying to be funny. Either way, Crow couldn’t let it go. In response, she wrote a song called “Dude, I’m Still Alive.”
The chorus goes:
Dude I’m still alive
Dude I’m still alive
I’m like Gloria Gaynor
You know I will survive
No matter what’s online,
Fake news or lies
Dude I’m still alive
Of the country singer running for office, she writes:
If Kidrock runs for Senate
I wouldn’t be surprised
But not over my dead body
Cause Dude I’m still alive
Not to be outdone by some Twitter user, she then recorded the song with her band. You can watch them play the song on her Facebook page.

As for the Twitter user, he doesn’t seem the least bit embarrassed by all of this — as of this writing, his initial tweet is the pinned tweet on his profile.
