Hip-hop and Star Wars have a lot more in common than one would think. Obi Wan for instance, with his deep thoughts and profound wisdom, was without a doubt influenced by the golden-era. Han Solo too is your typical rap/rockstar, jet-setting across the cosmos with his hypeman Chewbacca. And even C3P0 and R2D2, as complimentary to one another as Guru was to Premier.

The relationship between rap and Star Wars is undeniable, and just when you thought it couldn’t get any deeper a pair of like-minded Jedis came together and sent it into hyperdrive.

Producers Solar Slim and Richie Branson channeled their love for rap and Star Wars into a heady mash-up of Notorious B.I.G. acapellas and notable Star Wars samples. The two have a strong resume between them, repping organizations like Atlantic Records, Def Jam and Adult Swim respectively. And they do a surprisingly good job, seeing as how most mash-ups are corny and haphazardly constructed.

Highlights on the album (entitled Life After Death Star of course) include “Ten Crack Commandments,” “Suicidal Thoughts,” and “Big Poppa.” But the real standout is “Party and Bullshit” where Slim and Branson chop up Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes‘ tune from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. It’s impossible not to imagine Biggie among the alien bandits getting down with a mic in one hand and Twi’lek dancer in the other.

The force is strong with this album.
