Introducing ‘Rhyme nor Reason’ – a SONGLYRICS’ look at lyricists that make us want to jam a pencil in our brain. Or as a man named Shakespeare once wrote: ‘Was there ever any man thus beaten out of season/When in the why and the wherefore is neither rhyme nor reason?’

Compton-born rapper YG is a puppet lyricist used by major labels to promote the wackest rap under the sun. He’s a ventriloquist act, the MVP of lame, that nagging nose hair that eventually transforms into a phantom booger.

YG’s solo album My Krazy Life is a bootleg of itself, a mediocre variation of a nauseating formula. It’s a recycled product that only captures what has been done a hundred times over by more talented lyricists. One look over the track list and you’ll see all the boring standards: the party cut (“I Just Wanna Party“), the club jam (“Left, Right“) and the mommy ode (“Sorry Momma“).

It’s all retched garbage, but the one train wreck that tells you everything you need to know is “Meet the Flockers.” It’s a not so detailed instructional on how to rob someone, in particular singling out Chinese Americans as the perfect target. As cowards do, he hides behind circumstance and says that this is merely his experience, which in his mind justifies hate-mongering: [LISTEN]

YG’s latest claim to fame is a song aimed at presidential candidate Donald Trump. “FDT” is a mundane rap that has about as much lyrical integrity as a drunk tweet. What’s amusing is that YG and Trump have more in common than he thinks; what Trump is to politics, YG is to hip-hop. Both are using the spotlight for their own personal gain, both have no intent on uplifting anyone in need, both have no sense of culture and both are being manipulated by larger powers. He hates Trump because he sees himself, an overpaid buffoon who doesn’t know left from right: [LISTEN]

Riding trends is normal in pop rap, but YG is a human Xerox machine when it comes to copying. A walking mirror who reflects only what popular opinion demands. If it was in vogue to bash Ghandi he would be at the forefront saying he hated him the whole time or if all of a sudden cheeseburgers became something to loathe he’d say he’s been a vegetarian since birth. His political opinions are no opinions at all, only knee-jerk reactions ripped from the headlines.

YG’s entire career is based on recycled material, the same story told in a slightly different manner. He’s one in a convoy of wack lyricists who are diluting rap down to nothing. He’s stunting the cultures growth with his lack of creativity, confining rap to a tiny manageable box. Even when taken into context YG’s raps are as basic as vanilla yogurt. He does nothing for the culture, only siphons away the spotlight from more deserving artists. Misinformation is his M.O., and as far as false prophets go he is among the leaders. He’s a leech with no substance or artistry, and the sooner his tenure is up the better off rap will be.
