In light of recent events, Lana Del Rey has announced that she will be retiring the song “Cola” from her sets. The song has attracted attention because it has long been rumored to be about shamed film producer Harvey Weinstein.

In an interview with MTV News Lana Del Rey explained who the character was in the song and why she decided that it was a good idea to pull it. “When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston-type of character in mind,” said Del Rey.

“I envisioned, like, a benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual, like a Citizen Kane or something. I’m not really sure. I thought it was funny at the time, and I obviously find it really sad now. I support the women who have come forward. I think they’re really brave for doing that.”

Multiple Hollywood figures have come out accusing Weinstein of sexual harassment, which was motivation enough for Del Rey to refrain from performing the song. The song has Del Rey clearly singling out Weinstein, she sings:

My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola
My eyes are wide like cherry pies
I got sweet taste for men who are older
It’s been so it’s surprise
Harvey’s in the sky with diamonds and it’s making me crazy
All he wants to do is party with his pretty baby

In previous live performances Del Rey had removed the reference after Weinstein had insisted that she omit his name. During the interview Lana Del Rey did not clarify her relationship with him, but stated that it would be insensitive to perform it considering all that has transpired.

This isn’t the first time Lana Del Rey has edited herself, and it’s a wise move for the starlet who is about to embark on a nationwide tour.
