This is not about being addicted to drugs. It's about being addicted to a person. They are losing that person. In losing that person they are losing a part of themselves. I look at this song as if he were really stressed out, but doesn't want to admit it. He's talking about needing/wanting something to end the frustration, and he wants to break away from everything so that he can just be himself. Sure, it does sound like he could be talking about drugs. But I don't think that's the message in this song. Not at all.
