Cigarette fingers, ember stain
Incriminating notes on a paper chain.
Did you ever get the feeling that you've been cheated?
I wanna bust out, I've not been defeated.
We're all strong bones, they hold no water,
Got the whiplash smile, this gets harder.
Time has wound down and now we've been cached,
Because half measures are all half-assed, and
How did we ever end up this way,
And I don't know I'm in disarray.
Cultivating my ignorance--
Didn't we have some standards once?
I hate you and your cowboy boots,
Though we wanted clever, we settled for stupid.
Do it always so indiscreet,
Like a bad boyfriend he's a dirty little cheat.
It's a shallow, vicious state of mind,
Like an angry child getting dumped online.
And give me back my photos will you,
You fucking whore I'll kill you!
(Don't believe it) Don't believe a word
(Don't believe) Just keep on breathing.
(Don't believe it) Don't believe a word,
(Don't believe) 'cause pretty soon that good King George will wake up screaming.
Our soundtrack is a soul less thing,
Some dull ache replace the sting.
Rap stars brag about shooting each other?
Whatever happened to, "brother, brother"?
We like thugs when they attack, and
We like crime when it's black-on-black, and
Isn't this you, cruel-hearted fake?
And, isn't this more than you can take?

(Don't believe it) Don't believe a word
(Don't believe) Just walk on by.
(Don't believe it) 'Cause this moment will pass and then we can all, can all get high, yeah.
(Don't believe) Don't believe it
(Don't believe it) just keep on breathing
(Keep on breathing) oh pretty soon, that good King George will wake up screaming.
Wake up screaming. Ha ha.
Wake up screaming. Ahhh-ahhh.
Yeahhh! (Yeahhh!) x4
Round up all the big lynch pins.
Hope we don't get fooled again!
All sensation makes no sense,
You got some insane confidence.
I can't find myself I can't change the station,
In this corporate, sell-out, hillbilly nation.
Scandalize now with such ease,
America, give me back my keys.
Sand, it blows, a soldier squeeze
Trigger on fake enemies,
We're all abroad and all alone,
'Till you come home--bring 'em home.
(Don't believe it) Don't believe a word.
(Don't believe) Just keep on breathing.
(Don't believe it) 'Cause pretty soon that good King George will wake up screaming.
(Don't believe it) Don't believe a word.
(Keep on breathing) Don't believe a word, no!
(Don't believe a word) Don't believe a word.
(Don't believe) Don't believe a word.
Ha ha, the meaning of this song is VERY simple. It's about SJ's hatred and disgust with George W. Bush.
"Incriminating notes on a paper chain" and the "feeling" that we've "been cheated" refer to the questionable elections.
"Time winding down" and "half-measures" refer to how the investigations were only half-assed and never really followed up with.
The stuff about "standards", "cowboy boots", and wanting "clever" but settling "for stupid" are just straight-up knocks at W.
The chorus's lines about "walk on by" and "keep breathing" probably refer to all of the scare tactics after 9-11. We're supposed to be freaked out by Threat Levels and suggestions of bio-weapons.
And, of course, the line about "Good King George" is obvious.
The lines about thugs and crime mock W.'s weak responses to mundane, state and city-level concerns.
When the chorus mentions "this moment will pass", he's talking about how W.'s run is almost up.
The refrain is SJ's plea for people to take a closer look. The lynch pins are the political talking points and the major issues that really matter, instead of the nonsense and mud-slinging that we can be easily distracted by. "Hope we don't get fooled again"
SJ's expresses his disgust with the portions of America which adore and support W. when he mentions the "cold, quick-sell-out, hillbilly nation"
The ending of the refrain mentions sand, soldiers, and "fake enemies". He closes it with a plea to bring the soldiers home.
I thought this was a WONDERFUL political song, however, the album Ursa Major was delayed so long that Bush was out of office when the album was released, so the point never really got across. Bummer.
Okay well these lyrics are sorta wrong. They're more like the newest version of the song though. The older one is completely different, but still, it's a good song. This might be an in-between version.
There must be different versions of this song because most of the lyrics on the version that I have are completely different. One of the greatest bands, though. All of the members are extremely talented at what they do. At the time of this posting, only 53 more days until Ursa Major comes out!

It's difficult to figure out what he's trying to saying in these verses... can someone explain? These lyrics seem so piecey.
