Deciphering mirage from reality can always be difficult, but it becomes even more troubling when your imagination gets the best of you. This hopeless romantic – or horny bastard – wants to wake up next to the person of his dreams. He’s haunted and taunted by the vision he’s dreamed for them.
You're more than I can believe/You'll never go my way.
In “Fiction,” Sim feeds upon a fantasy that is far from the harsh reality of his ill-fated relationship. But it seems that opting for a façade is this man’s only option, namely when nobody can, and ever will live up to his wildest of dreams, anyhow.

What’s the truth anyhow, in life or the sedated bedroom pop these new-gen masters wrap tight around the space between together and torn apart? Slapped with a bass-rattling key line that hangs out like a shadow, the “vision” that is “mistaken” in this methodical hymn is better than fiction.

Tinkering plucks, shimmering guitars, roving melodies, and ominous keyboard bursts–”Fiction” may be Frankensteined together, but it’s seams are hardly visible, Oliver Sim’s fictitious love all the more powerful for being seamlessly unreal. That’s the beauty and the horror of it.
