The Offspring - Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? Lyrics

Artist: The Offspring

Album: Rise And Fall Rage And Grace

  • Songwriters: Dexter Holland

There's a moment in time and it's stuck in my mind
Way back when we were just kids
'Cause your eyes told the tale of an act of betrayal
I knew that somebody did

Oh, waves of time
Seem to wash away the scenes of our crimes
For you this never ends

Can you stay strong? Can you go on?
Kristy, are you doing okay?
A rose that won't bloom, winter's kept you
Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away

Though the marks on your dress had been neatly repressed
I knew that something was wrong
And I should've spoke out and I'm so sorry now
I didn't know 'cause we were so young

Oh, clouds of time
Seem to rain on innocence left behind
It never goes away

Can you stay strong? Can you go on?
Kristy, are you doing okay?
A rose that won't bloom, winter's kept you
Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away

Oh, clouds of time
Seem to rain on innocence left behind
It never goes away
It never goes away

Can you stay strong? Can you go on?
Kristy, are you doing okay?
A rose that won't bloom, winter's kept you
Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away
Don't waste your whole life trying to get back what was taken away

What does this song mean to you?

There was an interview with the guy that wrote this song and he said that this song was about a girl that he knew in high school. He was her friend and he knew that something was wrong but He never asked her about it. He regrets it now because she ended up committing suicide. That is why the notebook was left alone on the bleachers. i think that the other reason why the notebook was left alone and open was because she wanted someone to know. She wanted someone to help her. But she got no help. Thats what I think this song means. :)

Yeah, i agree. it's about a girl who got molested.that's really sad but you can tell just by the lyrics. i always thought that was what it was about but i never knew for sure. thanks anonymous. xoxo

i love how you guys are telling your stories relating to this song, but its actually meant to mean that kristy was molested. I read somewhere that is what it meant so just in case you wanted to know. I think its really great that they wrote a song for her because a guy in the band said that he knew someone that this happened to when he was younger. Good luck to both of you guys below me, and Im sorry for you both.

wow! I have an older sister, Christie, and she was in a car accident 5 yrs ago that took away the life she knew. Her body survived, but she had brain damage, and as a result, is a different person. I miss the old Christie, but I love the women she is now. I heard this song on the radio, and just started crying, it was perfect for her.
