The Fray - You Found Me Lyrics

Artist: The Fray

Album: The Fray

• Songwriters: Joseph King, Isaac Slade

I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad
Where the West was all but won
All alone, smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where you been?" He said, "Ask anything"

Where were you when everything was falling apart?
All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang
And all I needed was a call that never came
To the corner of 1st and Amistad

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me

But in the end everyone ends up alone
Losing her, the only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not and who I wanna be
No way to know how long she will be next to me

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!

The early morning, the city breaks
And I've been calling for years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want!

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor, where were you? Where were you?

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!

Why'd you have to wait to find me, to find me?

What does this song mean to you?

• Ladyelizabethbug

Wow,I love what you had to say!!! I soooo agree with you and you said it so much better than I could have..lol.God is my "All",He keeps me going each day.Even when I don't understand what He is doing...I have peace in knowing that HE knows, and loves me! I would never want to depict my heavenly Father smoking a cigarette.

• Scox14life

I am as well a firm believer in god and took this song as uncertain at first until I listened closely to the lyrics and come to no more of their music. For me I believe he is saying he lost the girl and was at breaking point and felt alone and confused and felt at that time he did not have god and then was found as he become to realize more and wasn't as lost. We all get angry and bitter at times and ? Even when we no we are not suppose to.. and I myself went through something very similar with my first love whome commited suicide.. so of course I felt lost and insecure and felt I could have saved his life. Especially after realizing he had been trying to tell me. I feel this is what he is saying in the song..

• Alexis Thaina Cuartel Castillo

this song really hit me...it remind me of my past.

• Alondra Gallegos

I Rlly Love This Song. Its Words Ring Truee For Very Many People &Theyy Truly Believe That What This Song Says Is Truee. I Don't Blamee God For A Bad Lifee Because I Believe In Nothing Being Impossible &I Believe People Can Accomplish Things But Yess, Many Times Its Not That Easy &People Make Mistakes &They End Up Needing Help &Theyy Ask For It But It Never Comes. Isn't God Supposed To Love His Children And Help Them In Times Of Need? It Happens That He Does Help, But Not Everyone & Not For Everything.

• Jeanne Kenyon

To me, it just says what it says- "where were you when everything was falling apart?" "Why'd you have to wait to find me?"...why weren't you there? It's about having to get through things by yourself and wondering where the hero went, why you're alone, why you have to fight alone. And then there's the fleeting happiness mentioned of "her" coupled with "no way to know how long she will be next to me", the uncertainty. Someone who has lost so much, had to see so much go down. Sure, there's Christianity involved, but the song works for an deity, any protector or hero that let you down. And for some reason, I love this song. It makes a point. And I cry DX.

• Chelsea RabidCat Machiela

This song is so human. As Christians, we want God to help us, and we feel bewildered and lost went He doesn't show up right away. In this song, the person is 'surrounded, surrounded' when God finds him. God is bigger than the battle, and He'll come to your aid according to His plan.

• Jenna Marie Lynch

I think even though the song has a certain meaning to the artist, as listeners and fans, we create our own meaning and this is what makes a song great, being able to connect people through lyrics. Just saying

Ok just for all of you trying to depict what hes trying to say here is a direct quote from Isaac Slade himself,

“You Found Me is a tough song for me. It started from just a song with a lot of hate towards God. More of questions, "why" It's about the disappointment, the heartache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I’m still right in the thick of it. There’s some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest.”

Yes he is Christian and yes he believes although its tough sometimes in the long road ahead of ourselves.

• Anonymous

okay hes asking why he didnt help or give him a sign, hes NOT blaming God, and the song is more about the girl not God, oh and by the last cigarette part hes talking about how it was the last in a pack

Psalms 13...If the Bible were written today, David in the Psalms would probably sounded very similar to this,...and at the end of the Psalm, he would have resigned to, "yet will I trust you" Psalms 13

i am also christian yet i don't think this song is bad.. i can relate to it. I've felt the same way. i have lost the person i have loved the most and i also felt like God came too late. although i know He was there all along. but we all have struggles in our spiritual life and anyone saying they don't is lying... if everything goes wrong in your life you can't help but wonder where God is, even if you hate the fact that you are questioning Him.
I think this song is beautiful.

• Anonymous

The song is great regardless of it being suicidal or not!
The song is just saying he waited and waited and at a point got tired of waiting for that one called that would reassure him things would be ok. So when he mentions the girl he is putting it as in when we do bad things we aren't suppose we feel happy but that happiness is only for the moment after its all over we go back to feeling sad, alone, ect . He goes back into waiting but just when he is about to give up the call he's been waiting for happens.
And for the part of smoking his last cigarette its just saying he'll be there when you are least expecting it.

1st, I'm not religious.
If we were created in Gods image or he in ours then it seems plausable and relavent to imagine god with weakness, besides contraversy sells almost as good as sex does. Symbokism is the conerstone of creativity.

Hey.... Y'all.. Just wanna say that bands like the fray consider their Christianity as a faith and not a genre... They don't do music for Christians. They do music for everyone.. May all you critics please understand and appreciate the poetry of the song and stop taking it all literally?? Just cuz it ain't your average Jesus song don't mean it's necessarily a suicide song.... God smoking a cigarette, God being a little too late... All that is just unique perspective poetically expressed.. It's a beautiful song...

""""""""By God he means he found God speaking to him through a person who opened his eyes to Him. Im Catholic and think this song is great""""" I totally agree with this comment. Gods speaks to us in different ways and thru different pipo, even someone whoz smokin can say somethin to you that will touch you and change your life.

• Anonymous

Point one: The Fray is not, not NOT a Christian/Catholic band.

Point Two: As for the lyric we're all knitpicking apart, take it for how you decipher it.

Point Three: There is seriously no reason to have a huge religious debate over this! There just isn't! Everyone has their own beliefs and it's not right to slam yours down someone's throat who doesn't agree!

We should all be allowed to be ourselves and not be told what and what not to believe, just because he mentions God does not make this a religious song! How many other artists have mentioned him in songs and I don't see people picking those apart.

Just take enjoyment in the music and really, don't always try to decipher meaning!

• Anonymous

I respect all songs and God. And it doesn't mean that the lyrics include God smoking his cigarette I can't respect this too. Because I know that God knows everything, every single thing and that he understands my faith in him. He also understands that when the going gets tough you just start to lose faith in him and it's hard to have faith when everything gets tough right? But that doesn't mean to stop trying. Even if you don't believe in Him or not, He created this world and without Him, we wouldn't be here. So I'm just saying this is a good song and some people are getting the wrong idea about God. He isn't the kind to go punishing everyone because they did something wrong. Instead, He forviges them as a loving Father. You just need to have faith in Him even if you think nothing's going right. Btw, at least try to understand this:)

• Anonymous

By God he means he found God speaking to him through a person who opened his eyes to Him. Im Catholic and think this song is great.

• Anonymous

What does it matter what the song was supposed to be about? Whether or not Isaac wrote it about God or Suicide, does it really matter? It's a song, take from it what you can and enjoy it.

Arguing about it is just stupid.

• Anonymous

I think the Fray is not a Christ like band! Don't get me wrong, I love their music, but they, nor their lyrics, nor their cigarette smoking "god", represent the 66 books of the Holy Bible. We all know "god" could mean anything..some people tend to use "god" loosely and in vain. JESUS CHRIST IS MY ONLY GOD!

• Anonymous

This song is not uplifting. I think the singer is forgetting his faith. I don't like to hear the message it sounds too hopeless and so filled with much hopelessness it drives the minds of the listeners to a dark place that suicide reins in. That is why so many have "mistaken" it for a song about suicide. Even though the artist was able to make the song without clarity of the message it is a wasted effort and leaves the meaning too open to interpretation, I myself called it a suicide song till i read it here...I could care less what it is about. "loosing her"... There is no GODLY truth in the lyrics. Christ is never late! Sorry I think if i addressed my God in that manner I would expect to be corrected and called the doubting Thomas I am.-jpn... I say it fails as a spiritual healing song in my book. I am really tired of what man has to say anyway for "he has turned everyone to his own ways". What "way" is the writer and musicians following.

• Anonymous

I wish people would stop saying its about suicide. First of all the fray is a christian band, and isaac slade has had interviews saying himself that this song is about his personal struggle with faith, look up these interviews yourself before your turn the meaning of this song around. The song can have a meaning to everyone but the meaning to the writer is faith and struggle.

• Anonymous

Yeah, there is someone out there. His name is Jesus, and he knows what you're going through... sometimes we go through tragedy because it makes us ealize how powerless we really are. We all wish we could have stopped the tragedies in our lives, but only Jesus has the power to stop things like that from happening... even though sometimes he doesn't because, if it wasn't for all the the tragedy in your life you never would have wondered if there was someone up there. And I never would have told you that the anwsers to your questions are in the Bible, and that EVERYONE who calls on the name of Jesus for help will be saved, you just have to mean it.

• Anonymous

interview Isaac Slade declared that:

"I kept getting these phone calls from home - tragedy after tragedy... If there is some kind of Person in charge of this planet - are they sleeping? Smoking? Where are they? I just imagined running into God standing on a street corner like Bruce Springsteen, smoking a cigarette, and I'd have it out with Him."

Yes a great song............but to the comment from Sept. 10th............"he was in gage" ???? Just for future reference........it is "engaged"!

• Anonymous

I love this songs lyrics. I meet someone who I like n chemistry felt all over the place, sadly we meet late he was in gage, would marry in a few months. This peson was insecure of this life-time decison but he went ahead and married. We find each other late!

this song isn't about god, its about a suicide and how someone lost a girlfriend and had no one to reach out to when this happened. so subsequently he killed himself. he just says that he "found god" as in he met his maker [when he killed himself]. isaac slade is a great singer and songwriter. i really respect this song and how it references god and doesn't focus the whole song about god, christianity or praise jebus type-of-thing. he is in an outrage, but a soft one. its more that he is so hurt that none of his friends or family was here for him in a time like that (when he lost someone so special to him). its so beautiful. this first verse is so good and special and different type of music from the rest of the song.

• Anonymous

its such a beautiful song but i would hope its about more than just one thing, whether it be an ex-girlfriend, suicide, or even god. i feel like its about someone who splits with his girlfriend and has nobody to turn to in his loneliness and kills himself. now he is telling whoever found him "why did you have to wait [to find him or contact him]". this is song is amazing and i particularly love the musicality of the first verse and how different and refreshing it is.

• Anonymous

i think this song personifies the Book of Job in that God allowed Satan to take away his children, his cattle, their servants just as a test to see whether or not he was truly a servant of God. he allowed this to go on only because he knew that Job could handle it, and in the end, his life gets back right when the goings get the toughest.

i see god in this songgg it is such a good song and i have listened to it at least 20 times in a row!!!

In an interview, lead singer and pianist Isaac Slade expressed his meaning behind the lyrics of the song:

• Anonymous

I didn't notice anyone's mention of the love of his life having died. It looks to me as though his rage toward this inner-god is an ongoing issue, but come to a crux at the death of the one thing he really wanted, his lover.

i feel it is not as important to know what a song meant to an artist as to know what it means to ourself. doesnt it take a good artist to create a song that we can all find meaning in. that those meanings might involve Faith and God for us is a bonus. Reading back I have to say many of you found wonderful meanings for the song.

• Anonymous

I don't understand how do many people get this wrong. This song is about SUICIDE. And hear me out b4 you dismiss the notion. In the beginning he smokes his LAST cigarette. Then "finds God" or "meets his maker", as the common phrase goes. God says "ask me anyhing". He asks him "where were u when everything was falling apart?", and tells him all he "needed was a call" that never came. A call that would have saved him and prevented him from taking his life. Then the CHORUS: Now he's talking about the girl that didn't call him in time. The girl who finds him on "lying on the floor surrounded surrounded" in blood. She was just a little late. Then he goes on2 explain that the girl is who he's talking about in the following verse and ends it with "no way to know how long she will be next to me": next to his dead body -- the one she found a little too late. Then the chorus. Then he justifies his action with her. Then the chorus...

The song is about faith in spite of the pain that we all experience. It's the anger at God's not dealing with us in a personal way... or in a way we can understand more clearly, like a letter or a phone call. Ultimately the singer's faith is still present but he is still hurting and angry about that... Plus everyone lets the great girl getaway.

U maybe need to read lyrics once again, i think its not about God, its about his ex girlfriend....
I just wish its about God :(
anyway great song

You found me! How can anyone ignore that? Sometimes we need to go through the Crucifixion before the Resurrection, you know? We live in a world so that we deal with it, we don't leave it to God, God counts on us. Just as He experienced it too.

• Anonymous

Maybe i'm wrong, but it could be that he's speaking to himself...? Like when you question who you are and who you wanna be. Where were you? A little late you found me. He found himself but it was too late, he lost his girl. That's what I thought, but I could be wrong and I trust someone will fill me in if I am.

I love this song but im really confused about the meaning . Is the 'the fray' christian or not ? because i dont recall christian songs having bad words in them.

• Anonymous

the lead singer of The Fray, explained the song's meaning in a post on his blog. He wrote, "You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you're let down, sometimes you're the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I'm still right in the thick of it. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest."

This song is about him questioning god,
he feels like god has left him,
he has the right to ask god, because god can handle it im sure.
Hes just being honest, and thats a true christian.

• Anonymous

I don't disagree in his anger. He does questions god, and so have I. Read Psalm 73. Even Asaph questioned God, however in verse 16, he returns his heart to God.

Great song, and lately I have really needed it. However, I wish he drew it back to God as needed. Realistically, it isn't that God hasn't been reaching for me, but I haven't been reaching for him.

By the way, I'm a preacher. We all struggle in this world.

• Anonymous

it's a catchy song but this does not reflect the true Christian God. This is Slade's view of Him at a time of outrage. He is at the stage of anger that Job (of the bible) was right before God set him back in his place.

amazing song i can say nothing more , the fray did it again ........ i love it

Please stop saying it is just a song. Just because we may not know the meaning behind the lyrics does not make this just a song. Let's give this talented artist more credit than that. Lyrics, poems, stories are written with some thought or purpose. This song meant something to this artist just like it means something to each of us. Thanks Fray, great lyrics.

i love this song is the type of song that can help you in really bad days you just wanna keep on listing to it :)!!

i think this is more to someone that who was probably always there for him. Then things went wrong, maybe he hurt her. This her was probably the one person that knew him, and that could always makes things better. And right when everything is going wrongs and no one is there to help, he thinks of this person, remembering how she once founds him and whipped him off. I guess he always assumed she would be there, but the hurt he must of dealt was to big for her to come back a second time.

AWESOME Song.......... Just want to listen to it over and over it's so great.......and I won't give an opinion on what it means or says because it is just a song...... To each his own......It's going on my IPOD and that's all folks....

• Anonymous

Probably this is not what The Fray meant with the song, but it's interesting to me that you could possibly turn the whole thing around. Maybe it's God asking "Where were you? Why did you have to wait?"
So often you hear people complaining about their life and shaking their fists in anger to heaven. But when we're having everything we need, do we give the same credit towards that person? Life is really hard sometimes and it's understandable that we don't feel treated fairly and that we get angry. But we're not always fair either.

I like this song because it relates to me in so many ways. 2 months ago I lost my son at 5 months gestation ( pregnancy) it was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. I wanted to be a mother so bad. After I went through all the crying I went through anger at god for taking my precious Tristan. I asked where were you when he needed you most? I was never a religious person and never went to church but one day I woke up just believing the lord is there. I could feel his presence. Now I go to church. He definitely found me and I now realize my son had greater purposes.

Is it not possible that we are all put here innocent. We make mistakes (sins) from a lack of understanding this world before us. We allow ourselves to give in to greed & lust to mention a few, and then we allow ourselves to be a part of crime, rape, pedophile acts, self mutilation, arson and a mass of other things that we do out of anger and frustration. We are put here innocent, remember that. As we fall victim too these weaknesses, these evils of, become more convinced that THIS is the only way, this is the only "life" and we begin to give up on ourselves. IE: we stop protecting that nerd in school, because others start to pick on us for it. OR we stop showing a boy or girl attention because other people are passing judgement on him or her. WE ALLOW OURSLEVES TO GIVE IN TO HATE, JUDGEMENT... SINS. Due to this, we are constantly brought to a new place in life, we are perhaps reborn, numerous times, each time (due to sin) we hide further within ourselves, afraid to stand up to the bullies. Afraid to admit our mistakes because we know we did wrong. We eventually end up sinking lower and lower into our own personal hell as we live each life. Not allowing ourselves to accept and make right for these wrongs we have done to others and ourselves.

Is it too much to think outside the box, understand that this world could very well be a holographic world, a room of spirits we are brought into in a whole different place where we must battle our own sins, our demons, until we can accept them? we live in fear of these demons, allow them to threaten us and if we eventually fall so deep we can not and damn near do not know how to get back up, we reach for a bible, answers, something that we can find peace in... but it does not always work this way. because these demons just want to keep pulling us back in... the only answer to finding god is in finding peace among ourselves, peace in our hearts, FORGIVENESS for those that have tress-passed against us.

Imagine one day, while you stood in shock having just watched your son or daughter being hit by a vehicle. Or letting go of their hand while they slowly lay dying on a hospital bed from cancer...If he put his hand on your shoulder and said "Do not worry, watch this" as he stepped aside and slowly your child or friend, etc was brought back to life and perfect health... WOULD YOU SECOND GUESS the right thing to do if someone was standing in front of you with a gun? would you fear them? If you walked around the corner to see a man beating on a woman, would you stop him? or be afraid of him attacking you? .... If you KNEW without a doubt that there is a god above that could and would always bring you back into the light, give you protection from the demons of the dark... Would you back down and stop talking to that "nerd" or stop liking that boy or girl because he or she was seen "picking his/her nose"?

I think to me THAT is what this song represents. That god is out there, bringing the light to our heart, the ability to love and forgive... constantly re lighting our fires and giving us the chance to let our love for one another SHINE.

We are all Hells angels. Its only a matter of time before we become consumed by the anger and hurt. the hatred, the jealousy and other sins... it is only a short time before we decide to allow our neighbor the ability to let his opinion on imagrants or sandniggers or her opinion on fat chicks become OUR opinions. It is the LACK of SPEAKING UP and taking your part in sharing this love you KNOW in your heart is RIGHT.

Think about it. selfishness, greed, hatred... LIES... these things keep us here, and apart from god, and his place of "heaven" or atleast that is the only answers i have come to find on my own. this is the beggingin of my define of life's experiences. and i hope that you will join me and share your own views on my website. Since i do not wnat to use this site to "plug" my site... I will only say "catch me online" google it or whatever... and eventually you will find my website.

God bless :)

Song meaning

In an interview, Isaac Slade expressed his meaning behind the lyrics of the song:

“You Found Me is a tough song for me.It started from just a song with a lot of hate towards God. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest.”[5]

In another interview Isaac Slade declared that:

"I kept getting these phone calls from home - tragedy after tragedy... If there is some kind of person in charge of this planet - are they sleeping? Smoking? Where are they? I just imagined running into God standing on a street corner like Bruce Springsteen, smoking a cigarette, and I'd have it out with him."[6]

Furthermore, in a Reuters article about the album, Slade says that the lyrics for "You Found Me" were written two and a half years ago, and that the song asks about the problem of evil, why bad things happen to good people, after some of their friends and family went through very tough times.[7]

Many of you said that this song is very hard to understand. But how difficult can be understanding feelings? Well, i like a boy. Unfortunatelly he is the most wrong, immature boy-not the first time i like a boy like this!So i love this song... For one more time i need Him,i'm "lost and insecure" and He is not here! One year ago my grandfather died... Where were He when needed His help? This feeling is terrible, but after a while you can understand that He is always here and suffering doesn't let you to see Him! However, i think that everyone has felt this feeling...:heartache! This is how i feel; and this is what i want to tell Him:i need You,please help me...

I am a believer in God, but I think the word God in this song means someone important in his life. Like maybe a father that has never really been in his life. When the song says "losing her" I think it might be his mom and now he feels alone (lying on the floor, meaning broken)but yet surrounded by family. His dad then comes back at that moment in his life. Then he tells his dad "Where have you been my whole life? And you choose now to come back!"

Where were you
When everything was falling apart?
All my days
Were spent by the telephone
It never rang
And all I needed was a call
It never came
To the corner of First and Amistad (This is where he lived)

I think watching the music video definitely highlights the direction they're going in with respect to the music video. I don't feel it's inappropriate or disrespectful, but rather just reflects the natural emotions and helplessness that people undergo when confronting a tragedy. We're not necessarily hoping to find a scapegoat for our problems, but when faced with tough times, we express our frustrations, which is completely natural. I think this song and the music video reflect the natural, instinctual responses that we experience when we face tragedy and injustices.

Also, while I agree that people do control their own destinies, I feel it is only to a certain extent. Think about innocent lives taken away by the minute due to social and political injustices that they have no control over. How is their misfortune the result of karma if they are born into such a time? Of course for those who believe in a religious figure, yes God is there, however, while we control our destinies in one sense, we can't control the opportunities, misfortunes, and good or bad luck that affect us. For instance, we can't choose who our parents are, the existing structures and norms that exist when we enter this world, etc. And in this desperation of having such lack of control, we become frustrated and ask why? Why couldn't we have been spared from this tragedy and from our misfortunes? This song reflects those emotions very melodiously.

I was with my ex husband for 10 yrs..he possibly could be bi-polar, I never knew..instead I enabled and made excuses for his violent behavior. I was the only one who he could put on a pedalstal and in the next moment make me feel lower than dirt. Once again, I enabled this behavior. Things got worse and abusive. He cheated nonstop. I got sick of it, he left me for another women. Then there was another woman after that. I finally divorced him and got a restraining order. He still tries to send me messages. No longer threatens me, instead dedicates this song...this song hurts me...because I am on the other end of it. He is singing to me, which makes me feel like he still has excuses for his behavior. I am the only one that understood him or enabled him? I am not judging the writer of this song, but can't help to hear someone pathetic singing the lyrics who only makes excuses for their behavior. They end up alone because of karma, because of the choices they made through out life...God is ALWAYS available to rely on - if you can't step up to the plate and be responsible enough to understand that, then the only one to blame is you - yourself...Where were you? Makes me sad, because sometimes you have EVERYTHING and more right in front of you, and you MAKE THE choice to mistreat it, then you ask God Why? oh Why poor me? Yes, we are all given these lives we lead, but it is not about the cards we are dealt, it is how we decide to play them. Maybe I am out of line with my opinions of the lyrics, but this is where ,my personal expierence has led me...

Isn't it so obvious, In life u can never be satisfied. Life is upsides and down sides, He dosen't realise this before it's to late. He realises this when the rollecoaster ends "Death".that is to late :D my personal thoughts

• Anonymous

I think something completely different, i think that he had no reason to live, and when he had just a tiny bit of hope, that SHE would call him and the telephone would ring, god wasn't there to help him. He was completly alone, she abandoned her, and the world just wasnt there for him, and god came late, when he had no hopes at all.. When he was "lyin on the floor, he found him, lost and insecure, where was he?" But then, you can find a completely different meaning, i mean it has much more than this stupid lonelyness and depression, its meaning life. Life is like that, you dont always get what you want, you get it late or you just dont get it, and when you least expect it, you found it, or that found you. But anyway, thats just my opinion. The thing i love most about this song, is that it's deep and everyone has it's own point of view.. And it's not just the stupid boy or girl who loves someone that loves another person, but it's something way more beyond that.. Feel free to agree or disagree, i would love to hear more opinions! :)

My thoughts

I found God
- This first verse is the only time in the song the subject states he “found God.” Every other reference is to God finding him — including the title.

On the corner of First and Amistad
- This meeting occurs at a crossroads in life. First Street possibly being a reference to the number 1, or self (me first); and, Amistad being friendship, or a friend—someone of the world.

Where the west, Was all but won
- Winning of the west entailed adventure, losses, victories, the passage of time, and the defining of an era

All alone, Smoking his last cigarette
- God was by himself, not distracted, just focused on the subject. Smoking a last cigarette would imply he had been there for sometime—the rest of the pack was gone. Smoking can be a means of passing time, or fighting boredom.

I said, "Where you been?" He said, "Ask anything".
- The subject asks God where he had been, and God invites him to ask freely. God is guiltless, and no reason to withhold.

Where were you, when everything was falling apart? All my days, were spent by the telephone
It never rang, and all I needed was a call.
- This verse describes the subject waiting of a call, but not receiving one; however, he doesn’t mention taking the initiative to call. It was all about his convenience.

It never came, to the corner of First and Amistad
- This could imply that the call never came to that specific location – that point in life—but not that there was never a call. Sometimes God’s answer is no answer at all; or, perhaps God was making a call, but the subject was so focused “Winning the West” at 1st and Amistad that he didn’t hear it.

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
- Although we don’t know what God’s response to the series of questions, the subject never again declares he found God – rather that God found him. To find something requires someone to look. Perhaps the subject realizes he was never truly seeking God; but he wanted God to come to the subject at the subject’s convenience

Lyin' on the floor, surrounded, surrounded. Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
- The pain the subject has experienced is unquestionable, and he is truly broken before God; but, was God waiting, or was the subject simply not ready to receive him until he was completely broken? Did the subject really want God, or just God’s help his sustaining his worldly desires prior to the point of acceptance.

Just a little late, you found me, you found me
- Perhaps what seemed too late for the subject, was just the right time for God; or, this first time the subject waswilling to receive him.

In the end, everyone ends up alone
- Everyone will end up alone in the end—standing before God. The more faith we place in the people of this world, the more be crushing their inability to sustain our needs will be.

Losing her, the only one who's ever known, who I am, who I'm not, who I wanna be
- Why was she the only who knew these things? He fails to consider what God knew. Had the subject put his faith and relationship with her over his faith and relationship with God? Was this why God had to wait for this moment, because she was the one thing that separated the subject from God?

No way to know, how long she will be next to me
- No one knows how long the people in our lives will be with us. It’s an unrealistic expectation.

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me. Lyin' on the floor, surrounded, surrounded. Why'd you have to wait?
- Continued questions through imperfect eyes

Where were you? Where were you? Just a little late, You found me, you found me
- Perhaps “just a little late” for the subject, was actually at the very first opportunity God had, and at just the right time.

Early morning. The city breaks.
- In the morning is an awakening, and despite the feeling of grief, life in the city, at that very intersection, continues.

I've been callin' for years and years and years and years and you never left me no messages
- Despite God’s presence, the subject still looks back in retrospect at the pain he has suffered through his separation from God.

I've been callin', for years and years and years and years, and you never left me no messages. Ya never send me no letters. You got some kinda nerve. Taking all my world
- More reflection on at the pain he has suffered through, through his own imperfect eyes, and questions why God would take away his world – failing to accept that this is God’s world – not his own.

Lost and insecure, You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor, Where were you? Where were you?

Lost and insecure, You found me, you found me. Lyin' on the floor Surrounded, surrounded. Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you? Just a little late, You found me, you found me. Why'd you have to wait? To find me, to find me

- -We see the world though our own imperfect eyes. We think that it is the Master’s purpose to please us. We put all of our faith into the things of this world, ignoring the fact that everything of this world will turn to dust, and eventually we will all stand alone in front of a God with a perfect plan. Unfortunately, most of us will not see the truth until we are completely broken, having lost all hope in ourselves and the things of this world, and have no one and nothing in which to trust, but God whose greatness is beyond our comprehension, and only receivable through faith in him. God is not intrusive, he will not force his way into our lives, but he is always waiting for the exact moment when we are prepared to receive him.

some of the best work written was when the words spoeke differrently to different people depending on their own life experiences, this is a perfect eg. i feel its bout all tragedy's of life and bout change and wanting to change but not sure how to go about doing it.
Either way its a beautiful song and enjoy it bring whatever meaning it does - i feel its more imp about how i feel after hearing then what maybe the grp initially intended.

If anyone says this song is bad they're wrong.
It took alot of emotion to write and record this song.
And last time I checked you don't have a hit song.

I'm almost sorry for The Fray. This song involves deep levels of emotions and it should never be rated. this is something only the author could understand or comprehend. They say the best in literature are those that came from experience and emotions. I'd say they're right.

too the person who said who changed your life.

well obv you changed it your self just because you became a "believer" doesnt mean "god" him self changed your life for you. you cant be the livin proof of him because he really cant do anything for you til your dead. if there is even another life past that. the only thing that changes ANYONES life is there beliefs. you base your life on them too change. As for me i can say im not a believer i lost my faith many years ago, too know that i needed too grow up and not waste my time, on just a belief of this all knowing "god".

in my opinion its pointless and a waste of time.

this song is amazing and its just as the band person said, " Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life."

• Anonymous

i think theyre are ptwo perspectives to this song. it could be, not judging by the video, about a guy who feels he was abandoned by god. or by the music video where the girl is dead.

"You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Personally, I dont think this song is very religious at all. It has God once in the song, not throughout it. If you watch the video and piece it together, the girl is dead. He didnt say he found God, it says "I found God". For all you know it could be talking about how the girl died and she found God, its from her perspective, not his. I feel the whole song is from her perspecitive. Shes dying, and she wants to know where everyone was to help her survive. The guy smoking his last cig was prolly one of the ones she needed. And I dont see how people can sit here and make a song religious when its really not. I believe in God and even go to church, but I don't sit there making ever song and everything around me have everything to deal with God, when in reality, it has little to do with him...hence the song.

• Anonymous

Just because it says God doesn't mean it is just about a religion. Personally, I think this song means different things to different people. For example; for me, it's about how you always can't rely on people.

• Anonymous

uh...yes, it's clearly about God, but not in an evangelical context. from the band itself:

"The 27-year-old frontman of the Denver-based indie-rock band said: "I kept getting these phone calls from home - tragedy after tragedy... If there is some kind of person in charge of this planet - are they sleeping? Smoking? Where are they? I just imagined running into God standing on a street corner like Bruce Springsteen, smoking a cigarette, and I'd have it out with him."'

http://www.metro.co.uk/fame/ar...

in the lyrics, i don't see anything to do with the "but everything's ok in the end and God loves us all and we love him too!" twist ending that people keep tagging on. A song not being about your own positive faith doesn't mean that you can't have your own beliefs-- this song just doesn't reflect them... which makes it infinitely more hilarious that the Christian radio station in my city plays this song.

The feeling of smoking your last cigarette is not good, just like being lost and insecure. Finding God at First and Amistad might mean that he finally found his best friend. Now that the cigarettes have been smoked, perhaps is time to talk about what is going on in life... so ask anything.

Where were you when everything was falling apart? He was there, waiting for you to finally come find Him, to get up at your weakest moment and finally see that even though life surrounds a person with all kinds of drama... when you look beyond and really open you eyes... God is surrounding us all the time.

Something like that, but deeper. Maybe hitting rock bottom is the only way for a person to wake up. I think so at times. When you feel like the end of the road is near, it might be smart to ask God for a little guidence, and you won't need to look very far. He's been with you along.

• Anonymous

I really think its about a mans disappoint that he only saw God when he was at his lowest point.. It's that confusion yet still an appreciation that makes up this song.. He's hurt that he had to fall for God to pick him up and he didn't seem to be there when things were good.. God was really only there when he needed him most.. Frustrating for anyone im sure..

• Anonymous

The song seems to me a man's desperate plea for God. He believes in God, or wants to...and feels alone and neglected. A relationship with God takes two...and it takes time. He loves you but you have to meet him half way.

• Anonymous

The meaning of the song...written by the band:

You Found Me" It's about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I’m still right in the thick of it. I believe that the man finally had enough of the bad things he was doing in life and finally decided to change. So he went to seek God and realized that he was right on the corner where he has always been and thats where he needed to fix his life. God was never gone the guy was just to busy with a different street to notice.

• Anonymous

Just because it is a desparate cry from a broken man dissapointed/anxious with God, doesn't mean it's not a prayer.

All throughout the bible, we have Psalms 142, Lamentations, 3: 54-56, etc; reflects similar words and tonality from even the "godliest" of people.

"You Found Me" is just a modern version. :)

Hmm, as a non-theist, I have to take a bit of a different stance than most of the people here. I actually -quite- like this song lyric-wise, as it seems to be criticizing the Judeo-Christian concept of an active, omnipotent, moral God. The singer in this song is demanding, quite fairly, to know why God, supposing he exists, if he had the power to intervene, did not.

(Sorta the whole "If God is omnipotent, but not moral, then he is evil. If god is moral but not omnipotent, then why call him "God". If God is omnipotent and moral, then whence cometh evil." argument.)

Technically it's claiming a belief in a non-moral, presumably omnipotent God; but more accurately, I think it's challenging the Judeo-Christian concept of an involved God, citing the great amount of evil in the world he does nothing to save the innocent from.

So, I applaud the singer, and a big FUCK YOU to Yahweh!

I think that everyone that commented is special, especially the one&#039s who feel that this has nothing to do with God,because they think they don&#039t believe in Him!!As a beleiver, this is just simply about a man living life, and trying to keep his faith! The writer uses great metaphors for prayer, and trust, and hope!!We all have tough times, and our faith gets in question from time to time, but the more we beleive,God does for us what He knows is best for our lives, like a true father is supposed to do!!And for the non beleivers,I just want to tell you that God loves you so much and He patiently awaits the time that you look to Him,and cast all your cares upon Him,He has a plan for your life, and wants you to do BIG things for Him!!I challenge you to search your hearts today!!If you read this and need a change,it&#039s so simple, just ask Jesus into your heart, ask God to forgive you for the things you have done,He loves you!!and you ask,He forgives, but you gotta mean it!!Time for a new start!!Pray that to Him,tell Him you want a new start and ask Jesus to come into your heart and your new life will begin, just trust and seek and you shall find!!

Adding my two cents...
I think this song is about a guy who's just committed suicide, probably threw himself from a building (on the corner of First and Amistad where he's surrounded by people who saw him jump) and being dead he finally meets God who tells hims he can ask him anything now, which is why he asks "where were you?" meaning when I needed you. I think he lost the girl he loved and was desperate enough to kill himself... then again, that's my own take, for what it's worth.

• Anonymous

you are all so lame. there is no god, this song sucks, the tool who sings it sounds like he has balls in his mouth.

• Anonymous

I think that the writer wanted us all to have our own interpretation of the song. To some of us that may mean that we are searching for God and questioning where God is, for others it may mean that we are frustrated with people around us and wonder why they aren't there for us when we need them. Either way I think it is a song about struggling and questioning, but having faith that it will get better in time.

• Anonymous

When I read the lyrics I interpret them as a man being in an abusive relationship... where he's the abuser.

One day he goes too far and his eyes are opened, but it's too late. He realizes that he's taken the life of the only person who really knew him. He drops to the floor next to the woman he loves, where he starts to question God and why he didn't stop him. He tells God that he never heard from Him... no signs, no nothing. Now... he's feeling lost and insecure... because he never knew God. He calls on God to help him, but again, he feels it's too late... so that lost feeling surrounds him.

Perhaps he's also surrounded by her blood and he doesn't know how much longer she'll be alive... so he blames God for not being there... to save her... from himself.

In an earlier post someone quotes the songwriter to stating that he had been dealing with a ton of family and friend issues for quite awhile. Perhaps this song is a reflection of something that took place and how that person felt or maybe it's something that they did.

On a sidenote, it's my belief that God never leaves us alone. He's constantly calling us, it's just up to each of us to open our eyes and see what he's trying to tell us. It's NEVER TOO LATE to call on God, He's always there... waiting.

Just my two cents ;)

Love this song!!

obviously about god. Amazing song, amazing lyrics.

How can it NOT be about God? At the start of the song he says "I found God". Obviously thats what he means. People who say it's not about God just because THEY do not believe in God are pretty stupid. Just because you dont, doesn't mean others dont or shouldn't. And yes, any person is allowed 2 question his God, and yes, the writer asks why God was so late, but in the end he was there, yes the change from "I found God" 2 "you found me".

Anyways yes, brilliant song by The Fray. True artists.

• Anonymous

To be honest with you... some people don't believe God exists. That is their opinon... as well as the song writers. SO- with that said... I think he's asking God why He didn't show up when the writer wanted him too... but God's timing his perfect. Our human persepective is set to want everything to happen when we want it...

• Anonymous

he's talking to God in this song. He's asking God where He was when all this shit happened to him. he's asking Him why did he get there so late and why she had to die. he's also asking Him when is he going to die so he could be with her again.

i love this song, i dont think it is about god because i don't believe in god. I think it is talking about a girl that was too late to repair the damage she left. She was too late and he was heart broken

I think this song is more like a converstion between God and the guy. he says he found God in the corner he had never gone before and then God tells him to ask him anything and thus the conversation begins...if you look closely you can tell the difference. I think it has nothing to do with suicide.

To my mind, when he says it's too late, he says that it's too late to cancel and repair his mistakes, to change his decisions and what he did.
God arrived too late to help him, but he talked to him, so I think he's alive (or in Heaven maybe, but I don't think so).

what i think this song is about .. that he his giving up on god ... because god couldnt never of helped him before something happened and onyl after something apeened..

and also he stopped veiwing god as an almighty figure and now he veiws him as a average joe smoking a cigerate and cant really do anything for him

We can never completely know God's plan, but as it is illustrated in this song, God is always there.

Lost and insecure

You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor

Surrounded, surrounded

Why'd you have to wait?

Where were you? Where were you?

Just a little late

You found me, you found me

Things happen in life. Many bad things are very hard to explain with a perfect, all knowing, all loving God. I believe there is a possibility the artist(s) is/are questioning God. Their performance after the struggles in their life have a different meaning, however. The performance is a testimony of the artist(s) faith in God. As Mr. Slade put it, "it demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen."

This song is very inspiring for the people that need GOD, this guy been looking for God while GOD was right there by his side, he just had to stop doing what he physically wanted (like smoking) and do what the spirit inside of him tells him. Even though he went through so much, HE FOUND GOD but the song is called you found me..so GOD Found him

I adore this song, you can't be simple minded and understand any of The Fray's songs. So all these people on here saying that he's being disrespectful... blah, blah -whatever. Each to his own, but ... come on people. It's metaphoric, it's deep. I love it. Sometimes I question God.

• Anonymous

Well as Christians we are taught to be good to everyone ..because we never know when that person might be God in disguise. So maybe that person you see standing on the corner smoking is God in disguise, I know God is everywhere even when we can't feel Him because we are hurting .. This guy in the song seems to be hurting and when he does find God ..God tells him "Ask me anything" thus he starts asking the questions...But in the end the guy says You found me. (It kinda reminds me of the poem Footprints in the Sand)

In an interview, Isaac Slade expressed his meaning behind the lyrics of the song:
"You Found Me" It's about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest.
In another interview Isaac Slade declared that:
"I kept getting these phone calls from home - tragedy after tragedy... If there is some kind of person in charge of this planet - are they sleeping? Smoking? Where are they? I just imagined running into God standing on a street corner like Bruce Springsteen, smoking a cigarette, and I'd have it out with him."

I think the best part about music is that you can interpret it different ways, so whether you think it's God talking to a person or the person talking to God, you can find meaning in it somehow. It makes sense several ways to me, depending on how you look at it, and it doesn't make the song any better or worse either way. I love this song, I think the Fray writes some pretty fantastic stuff.

• Anonymous

Most of you are wrong in thinking this is some anti-god song.
In fact every single member of the Fray professes to be Christian. In this song they are asking God, "Where were you when life sucked?" which is a very good question. Despite this question they go on to say how God still made himself revealed to them. The song is a statement that God exists whether something makes sense or doesn't... in this case "where is he sometimes?". The answer is that he's there...we just can't see him.

• Anonymous

I think that this is an amazing song, that lots of people can relate to and I think his voice shows a lot of emotion.
He's a really good singer, I think that this song os about losing someone and waiting for them to call, or contact you but they don't, and he's describing how he feels, which is as if he's dying.

• Anonymous

This song isn't about him finding god its about how he believed, and god abandoned him. "smookin his last cigarette" show us that god isn't all that great and is overrated omfg GOD DOESN'T EXIST!!!! You fools!!!!

• Anonymous

I don't think it was him questioning God, I thought it was God saying, "where were YOU? Until you needed me? You never called (prayed) you never came, you never needed me until things went rotten... and now have the nerve to question me?" That's what I thought.

• Anonymous

so does the guy die in the song or is he just needing help?

• Anonymous

I agree with a few posts on here in that I think the lyrics are meant to portray the feelings of someone while they are still hurt. Most people will question where God was at one point or another. Or why God would let something happen to them. To me the song isn't saying God wasn't there - it is simply the human reaction to stress - the feeling as though NO ONE is there. . . but in reality, God is always there.

i feel this song is about the feeling that god is robbing you, that he isn't being fair, and the anger we all have towards him if something doesn't seem to go the way we want. the speaker ends up finding god, or rather, feels like god finally found him, but he took too long, and maybe he didn't answer in time to save what the speaker ended up losing. the speaker lost someone close to him and blames god.
i can relate to this because i used to be lost, and thought i was so lost that even god couldn't find me, that he took his time and was far too late. but he is never late, only we can't always see that right away.
anyways, great song, really speaks to me.

"I kept getting these phone calls from home - tragedy after tragedy... If there is some kind of person in charge of this planet - are they sleeping? Smoking? Where are they? I just imagined running into God standing on a street corner like Bruce Springsteen, smoking a cigarette, and I'd have it out with him."

if you watch the video, you see that there was a car accident, and the girl is laying on the pavement. so i think the lyrics are what she would say--lying on the floor, surrounded by paramedics, etc. i think the fray is trying to tap into how people feel after a loss and how the actual victim as well as their loved ones would feel. they are wondering why God would let this happen to them. But at the end of the vid everything starts flloating, and the girl opens her eyes to show that she is in fact alive. I think this shows how God is still there, even though it seems so hopeless--everything happens for a reason.

i relate to this song cuz i lost my husband a year ago and its how i felt about god."'where were you?' 'how dare you take all i want'...its all things we go thru after losing someone we love... the anger the bitterness especialy towards god but hopefully we find god and realize he has a devine plan, and that no matter how mad or angry we are, no matter how much you cry and curse there is nothing that can change what has happen and we just have to learn to accept. im not totally there yet but i hope to get there soon.i dnt know what the writers real meaning of this song is but i know the meaning it has for me. its a great song and i love it.i

i believe the song is about suicide...the man has obviously lost someone he loved, i believe she died and hes angry with God "You got some kind of nerve taking all I want". After she died he "looked" for God and he uses the image of the phone "calling"...but when he does finally find god its too late bc hes commited suicide and is "surrounded". i get the image of someone lying in a pool of blood.

The song is not about God finding him, it's about him finding God! The first line says "I found God" therefore when it later says "You found me" - that is God talking. God says "Why'd you have to wait to find me, Where were you?" This means that God is always there waiting for us to turn to Him. But too often, it's "just a little late". We need to keep God in our lives all the time...not only praying to him but thanking and praising him. He's waiting to answer our call!

And you never left me no messages.

and the cigarette i think he doesent care maybe by god smoking the cigarette it kinda gives me a image like eh i don't care

• Anonymous

I think that he's trying to ask God where he was while he (the singer) was going through struggles and tough times. He feels as if God sort of "kicked him to the curb" and then "found him." It reminds me of the common question about why does God let bad things happen to good people, or just people in general; things like natural disasters, people dying, families suffering, etc. I've experienced some rough times in my life and I've had friends come and go and turn their backs on me, but as a Christian, God has always been there for me and I'm positive that he's always gonna love you too despite what you've done and the fact that you're not perfect.
The part about God "smoking a cigarette" makes him more relatable to people. Everyone wants to place God in a box and say that he is this, this, and this, but we are made in his image. We are not perfect like he is, but we are still made in his image. As someone else mentioned, God smoking a cigarette in this song could also reference a disciple whom God is using to spread the Gospel and the story of Jesus Christ.

To try to find a single, all-encompassing definition or meaning that this song represents, is foolish.
Many lyricists create songs with numerous identities and interpretations, and seem to welcome the unique and diverse thoughts of the listeners interpretation.
The best works seem to be those which appeal to a wide-group of demographics and are open to interpretation. They transcend a stagnant identity and seem to be defined by time and culture. What may appear as God to someone, may appear as a lost loved one to somebody else. Each opinion is distinct, but neither is necessarily incorrect.
Finding a concrete meaning to what is likely an open-song is like finding a needle in a metaphorical haystack.
I apologize for the typos.
Peace homies.

Ok this song start like "I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad" Then 1 sentence later it say's "All alone, smoking his last cigarette" This totally is talking about a different person because no one can see god. So this can me a friends or a guardian in real life that left him when he needed him. He is not talking about god at that part." All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang" This mean he was waiting for a call from someone. Since im a christian you cant really call god, but you can talk to him through prayer and this is saying he is waiting for a call from his "guardian" in real life.

I know that the writer feels like God is not close and not answering. And I know that the video means something else. But something for you to think about.

Maybe God is on the corner smoking his last cigarette because God helps people through other people (Christians).

This song can easily be a challenge to every Christian who hears it (though not intended to be). That person on the corner smoking his last cigarette may have been able to help someone through a bad time if he had taken the time to reach out.

Where are we Christians, and why are we not reaching out to help?

Let's stop beating people over the head with our Bibles and just get out there and do something to help! Newsflash, the lost and the lonely and the hurting and the hungry are not breaking down the church doors waiting for you. Jesus SENT the disciples to the lost. That was kind of His point.

It means that God finds you in your weakest hours. in the hours that you feel you cant go on. he is there. he finds you. its you that must realize that he is right beside you. he is always with you. even though its hard to feel like he there.

• Anonymous

Hm, /to me/ this is how I see this song:
It's about him being broken after the death of his partner.
He finds God on a corner of a street smoking cigarettes, chilling and relaxing despite him going through a rough time. He becomes angry, and asks God where has he been when he was struggling over the death of his partner /why he lets all these bad things happen ("leaving no messages...taking all he wants..etc").

Of course this is the literal meaning...but the thing that really stood out to me was, in the first stanza he asks, "Where've you been?" and God replies, "Ask anything".
This convo occurred "on the corner of 1st and Amistad" where /he found God/ which signifies that when you ASK and seek, God will come to your aid.

Sometimes bad things just happen. But when you ask for help, God will come--he's always there, you just have to go find him. It's us who fall away from him, not him who falls away from us.

----
If you haven't guessed, yes, I'm Christian so obviously I have a bias view on the song. Remember, it's just what I take away from the song, I'm not trying to convince or preach anyone here. (:
All of the interpretations are quite interesting though, I haven't thought about the song in that way.

Response to the comment about eliminating evil:

Evil cannot be eliminated, because we have all inherited Original Sin from Adam & Eve (that is, an inclination to sin). We have sin because God created us with free will, and you CAN choose to turn away from God and do something morally wrong. Look at Genesis. God floods the world, but the Tower of Babel still pops up. He can work through our actions to accomplish his will, but he can't control our decisions.

(Or so says the Catholic faith.)

• Anonymous

The whole cigarette thing is just to show that, if you believe in god, that we are made in his image. it shows that god is one of us, just a smoker on the street.

• Anonymous

I think this song actually has a very hopeful tone to it. Yes, as soon as God tells him to "Ask anything" he explodes just like any child would not understanding what has been happening. It seems there was a loved girl that was lost, and that among other things escalates to song into its climax, what we see is the swelling of emotion that happens in everyone when tradgety hits. First there is quiet shock, like the beginning of the song. Slow, and mesmurizing, then anger bursts out, building on its self, then comes depression and hopelessness. "...in the end, everyone ends up alone..." but if you notice, as he blames god that he has come too late, he still admits, "You found me" in fact thats how the song ends. Which is how ever new hopeful time of our life begins. We find something to replace to whole. In this case the artist found the only thing eternal we can find to fill the whole. He will never be incomplete again.

someone commented "if its about god, why is he smoking a ciggarette?"

poetic technique, imagery; to make you see the meaning.
if you imagine God, standing alone on by himself on a corner, "smoking his last ciggarett" itd be a pretty depressing scene. cigarettes are man's creation, a horrible addictive creation.
its like saying 'look what man has done to the image of god'. society has disregared his moral good teachings and the world is all corupt.
saying "look what god has become. nothing but a lonely man taking a smoke"
and whos to blame.... man kind.

"all alone" god smokign his "last" cigarette also makes god seem quite powerless, powerless enough to have people question him and abuse him.
when god says "ask anything" its as if god has given up. and personally i dont blame him.
humankind is so corupt and twisted its like a living hell. life is like a test i rekon. and god's not going to stop all the evil, simply because its not his resoncibility and we as humans need to learn a lesson.
people always turn to god and blame him, all because no one wants to take responciblilty.
but i can also understand why people blame god and hate him when such terrible things happen to them for no reason. and its a shame, because its humans fault we ate the apple. not gods.
we humans can change the world if we wanted to. but not everyone wants to and some people dont even have a say in life.

very acusing and answer demanding lyrics. yet its all so sad. the song has a real hit of hopelessness in it.
VERY powerful message. you just have to see it

• Anonymous

"Some people say that God ain't real 'cause they don't see how a good God can exsist with all this evil in the world. If God is real then He should stop all this evil, 'cause He's all-powerful right? What is evil though man? It's anything that's against God. It's anything morally bad or wrong. It's murder, rape, stealing, lying, cheating. But if we want God to stop evil, do we want Him to stop it all or just a little bit of it? If He stops us from doing evil things, what about lying, or what about our evil thoughts? I mean, where do you stop, the murder level, the lying level, or the thinking level? If we want Him to stop evil, we gotta be consistent, we can't just pick and choose. That means you and I would be eliminated right? Because we think evil stuff. If that's true, we should be eliminated! But thanks be to God that Jesus stepped in to save us from our sin! Christ died for all evilness! Repent, turn to Jesus man!"

Here is the answer to your wuestion the fray :
God did not find you too late it seems that maybe you just were not looking for him or did not need him at the time but after all the tragedy happened in your life you seemed to turn to him. God is always near and wants to help us but it is us who determine what happens, it depends on us , not Him; he is always there for us and is waiting for an invitation because God does not intrude in our lives he waits for an invitation. God loves us so much that he waits for us, unlike alot of the "important people" in our lives.=] Other than that great song, I really like the fray

This song definately has incredible Christian Meaning. The words &#039You Found Me&#039 to me means that He was crying out to God when he was at his weakest point saying "Yes God, You found me! Now I know that I am safe in your arms where I belong". God gave him the strength to carry on in life even if it seemed to be impossible given the circumstances of the song.

God is amazing like that - whenever we are feeling down or completely out of our depth, we can always turn to the Lord God, the creater of Heaven and Earth, to come and find us in whatever state we may be in our lives and bring comfort and Love. A Love that cannot be found anywhere else! It is an amazing feeling to know the Love of Jesus Christ and it definately makes everything in life seem like they don&#039t matter anymore! That is what the song is talking about - being found by God even when you feel like there is no hope left and crying out to him to come and find you and the best part is that he ALWAYS DOES!!!!! Every Single Time!!!!

• Anonymous

He's talking about his testimony(past life before God), so it involves cigarettes because he probably smoked before he met God.And God puts us through things so that we can ask for his help. Its to build trust between him and you. Besides, most the time you go through things, its only because you caused it yourself. I mean, think about it. If you abuse someone last week, and then got abused the next, why do you think that happened? God can't do anything but watch you make a mess, just waiting for you to ask him for help. Its like trying to fix your cable while the cable man is standing right by you, just waiting, not saying a word, but he's there.

yeah, to all the people who are saying, "This song is about..." blahblahblah, no it&#039s not. look up like, "the meaning of You Found Me" or just search the song on Wikipedia & it comes up with what Isaac [the songwriter] actually felt & wrote about, concering this song.

*AHEM*

""You Found Me" is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you&#039re let down, sometimes you&#039re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I&#039m still right in the thick of it. There&#039s some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest."

Additionally, in another recent interview Isaac Slade declared that:

""I kept getting these phone calls from home - tragedy after tragedy... If there is some kind of person in charge of this planet - are they sleeping? Smoking? Where are they? I just imagined running into God standing on a street corner like Bruce Springsteen, smoking a cigarette, and I&#039d have it out with him.""

THERE is the real meaning.

Hi! I'm a Christian and I just want to comment on this song. It really depends on how each person interprets this song. Opinions are gonna be different. But here's what I think.

This guy has just gone through maybe the worst part of his life. We could all relate to that. Our usual reaction after going through something really part is blaming God, right? We tend to question where He was when we were suffering, why He allowed things like that to happen. But when you reflect over the lyrics carefully, there is hope. God has always been there. He steps in when we are at our worst, our lowest, and when we are totally lost. We tend to think He's late but that's not true. He wants us to wake up and realize that there are lessons to be learned and that life is still beautiful.

So guys, God is always there. He gave us free will because He wants us to make the choices we want. He doesn't want us to be robots. He loves us that much. He's never late. He'll save us in the perfect time.

La gente muere de hambre animales se estinguen, gente rica, contaminacion y el... mientras tanto ¿Donde esta? Esto es lo que dice la cancion, nunca esta cuando lo necesitas y quien diga que si es porque lo cree

I don't believe in God!!

My opinion about this song is as follows:
This person (the narrator) has barely survived an attempt to end his life, seemingly because he lost his girlfriend. She apparently has died, maybe she was dying for quite a long time and he was waiting for God to intervene and save her.
When that didn't happen, this person was devasted and went off the deep end and tried to kill himself and while he was lying on the floor, God did intervene and did not allow his death to happen. This person is now questioning God about where he has been all this time, where was He when he needed Him to be there.
It's all speculation as to what the lyrics mean, but they are pretty simply understood if you don't read too much into them.. The most simplest answer is usually the right one.

Do not submit to pluralism you postmodernists. This attitude that the song means something different to everyone is saying there is no truth in saying that the song means a specific thing. He obviously wrote this with one specific meaning. Now while you can guess at what that meaning is, you will not know until he says it. What this song is saying and how it relates to you are two different things. So do not say this song means different things to everyone because that is false. The song means one thing and what changes is how you relate to it. Jesus Christ never changes. Absolute Truth never changes. There aren't multiple truths which each person assigns to himself. Truth is Reality. Jesus is Reality. It can not be proven otherwise. I can so relate to this song, my husband of 1 year left my home 5 weeks ago and I have not heard from him other than a simple email that he would never come back and that he was filing for divorce because he doesn't want to be married, he rather drink himself to oblivion with his family 15 hours away. Suicide entered my mind, I broke his dishes and there I was on the kichen floor laying on broken glass, pleading with God to take me....but instead he found me , and I found him, and although I may continue and hope for years to hear from my husband, I know God will guide me.

This song means what you want it to mean. Its about his personal experiences and beleifs, something that we will never be able to know because there his. Lets stop picking apart this song and just leave it to be what it is, amazing. I myself will say that this song is insperational, wonderful, and mind boggling. If you think this song doesnt make sense and the lyrics dont fit then that is your opionion but if you search the lyrics deep enough, every line has its truth.

This song is about going through pain and wanting God to give you the answer to your problems. When you are finally at your lowest point, you find God, which is why the line makes sense that God is "all alone, smoking his last cigarette". This means that God is done waiting and is now there to help because at the end he says" Why'd You Have To Wait? To Find Me, To Find Me". This isn't about Christianity, but moreso about having faith in a higher being when yo uthink no one can help you. Maybe even finding and having faith and strength in yourself. This is not about suicide and death. It's about hope and rebirth at a time when you think all else fails.

i love this song so much nd i think its about his gf commeting suiside. "Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me. Lying on the floor, surrounded, surrounded." its talking about how God was too late. he was blaming God 4 wat happend but it was her choise, not God's. God doesnt kill people. People kill people.

This song hurts. As was say before, any piece of art means something different to each and every person. For me, this song reminds me of my son. He died by suicide. "You found me. Just a little late. " He was found...just a little late. If only we had seen and recognized his pain, if only we had found him just a little sooner. The pain is great still...even after a year and a half. So for me this song is very painful to listen to.

I heard an interview with the lead singer from The Fray on the radio last weekend and I can tell you EXACTLY what the song is about -- the lead singer said the lyrics reflect what he would say to God if he ever met God face to face and was able to have a conversation with him.

This song is so deep. It's about his girlfriend/wife has been hurt, and he finds God after all the bad has already happend. He's wondering why God didn't help him before all of this. The lyrics "You found me" means that he's has been looking for God, but now they found each other... afterwards.

Do you guys actually read the lyrics?

But in the end everyone ends up alone
Losing her, the only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not and who I wanna to be
No way to know how long she will be next to me

It IS about a girl, watch the music video.

This song is obviously about how what christians see as God, to him, is a cocky bum who doesnt really care about him, because if he did, he would magically fix his problems along with those in Africa.

i think he use's god as someone to blame as we al do but it's about interpretation we percieve things how they best fit us at the time, anyone can relate this osng to themselves as it's so openly about hurt but not pecifically about something, it's just simply about abandonment and someone taking there time ti come back, god is just a metaphor as soemone to blame

I think its about a bad breakup ... A girl broke his heart and he was so hurt and she has some nerve to find him and talk to him again.

I think everyone can relate to these lyrics. mostly everyone has trouble in life. Mostly everyone ponders God in relation to their trouble. So i guess i believe that artists write lyrics to talk about their experiences, and it&#039s up to us to interpret them however we want. Whether it&#039s what the artist was actually going through or if it&#039s something different.

This song is talking about God finding him after the fact of him committing suicide. And how he's like "holy shit what took you so long... I've been so despaired for so long how did you not notice until it was too late"?

I LOVE THIS SONG !

• Anonymous

It seems to be about a man who had someone that he loved leave this world, and is holding resentment towards this God fellow because he believes he was taking his time with his situation. He finds it unfair that he's got to be broken down and weak before God comes to nurture his broken heart and body... he feels that he has been betrayed. It seems that he is confused; losing faith while gaining it.

bahhh.

What's sad about all of this is that in someway the saying "god Is a concept by which we measure our pain" is true. I believed in god, but the truth is we really dont know whats up and out there. The idea of a christian god is there because as human beings we need something there to help us, to believe in us, to fall back on. A shoulder to lean on. I think this song is about how he's gone through something, and has found the "Parent" who wasnt all ways there, so everything happens for a reason. Turst me, i hope so much there is a god, i hope a lot, but maybe its something else.-thomas berry

Like any piece of literature, music can be percieved anyway the reader or listener interprets it.
Too me, this song seems to be a guy or girl asking God where he was in all the times of hardship.
Except God can&#039t always be there when we need him most and some things in life happen because they have to.

its not about suicide, when you see them up on the buildings there supposed to be angels looking down on everyone ... i heard it from the lead singer during the making of the video. just watch it and he tells you what the songs really about

Love the Fray, Love the tune. Interesting how God doesn&#039t get to answer the questions in the song. "I was here all of the time next to you, but you didn&#039t have your heart, eyes and ears open for my answer" or "I give humans free will, so I allow things to happen that I don&#039t necessarily want".
Interesting to hear all of the religious responses-which is great that the song is stimulating that. Unfortunately in the U.S. I think that only a few really have a deep, personal relationship with who they call God and have actually dedicated significant time as adults developing spiritually.
My Lutheran perspective: God the 3 in 1 is always with us, always waiting FOR US to call out to him (pray). Prayers aren&#039t always answered in the way we want, when we want or how we want.
Feel the singers frustration. The fact that he "finds God" says he has some sort of Faith.
God Is always with us. He doesn&#039t "take" people from us. People die, because we are not immortal. Bad things happen that have nothing to do with what God wants. There is no Fate or Destiny, because then prayer wouldn&#039t matter.

I dont think that every song that has to deal with a drastic life situation is about God. I think the guy was looking for something more like Love.

• Anonymous

I think that this song is about how God is closest when we are at our lowest, and we truly realize that life cannot be lived in our own power. I think this song reflects somewhat on the subject matter of "How to Save A Life". In this song they outline some of the 12 Steps in trying to reach a friend and help them change/save their life. Step One says that life was out of control and had become unmanageable. This allows us to look for something or someone else outside of ourselves to make life work (God). Step two is realizing that there is a higher power that can fix our lives. Step three is turning our will and lives over to the higher power, and so on. I love that the Fray uses these concepts through out their music. We all have addictions and we all need the truth.

This song is interesting. The guy has looked for love but never found it. Even his girl is taken away. And then, suddenly and despite all the heartache and loss love finds him. He realises love isn't just a destination if you ever reach it but the path travelled. And he feels he's wasted his life: If only he had known, had some sort of sign. Which of course he now offers you in this song!

I just watched the video to this song and by the way, I love the Fray. In the very end of the song it shows the girl (whom I would assume is his girlfriend) turn and look up as if she isn't dead but was maybe unconcious or something and IT DOES not show him commit suicide. One might assume since he is standing on the edge of the building looking down but it doesn't show this, then it shows the inside of the ambulance so don't always assume. Too many people assume too many things in this world and we shouldn't sweat the small stuff. Maybe you can go on the Fray's website and find out more meaning. I love the song and it is awesome whatever the meaning. I do believe it is saying where were you and meaning where were you God when I was lost. Also, whoever says God can't smoke a cigarette, then does it not say in the bible that even the Devil can disguise himself however he wants and not saying this is the Devil but God could also be a homeless person on the street, how do you know it couldn't be. Anyway, just enjoy the song. Thanks

• Anonymous

It's just a song, if you want to know the meaning behind it then look up the interview about it on youtube, I remember the lead singer say that the song was about hard times that people close to him went through and him wondering why God wasn't there for them. It's a beautiful and inspiring song, obviously it has inspired a lot of diverse opinions in people and everyone can hear it and interupt it in the way that they choose to.

I personally see it as my life growing up in a church, but never really feeling the presence of God in my life. I'm agnostic, so even though I don't worship God, I do look around and see the beauty of this universe and I do think that there must be a greater power out there that put this all together. And when it says "And I've been calling for years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want"
I think of all of those unanswered prayers, the times when I talked to God and felt like no one was listening.

• Anonymous

seriously it is just a song. beautiful, simple to others, yet complex in meaning. just let it play for what it is.

• Anonymous

First of all, let me just say that songs are supposed to mean different things to different people... that&#039s the purpose of art... it&#039s just specific enough to lead you down a certain thought process and just vague enough to let you fill in the details.

Yes, I&#039ve been a Christian for most of my life but I can 100% identify with what I believe this song means. When I listen to it, I hear an aching urgency in his voice to tell us the one thing he does feel, sorrow, and the one thing he doesn&#039t feel, God. Too many times I have felt the exact same way but if there&#039s one thing that I&#039ve learned in this life, it&#039s that you can&#039t ache for something you&#039ve never felt. Even in the blackest world, love seeps through. It&#039s in the midst of this blackness that he&#039s singing this song, and it&#039s in the midst of this blackness that the deepest and most honest emotions can be found. However, the fact that he even feels the ache of absence means something was once there. Don&#039t worry, I&#039m not going to say that God is always there- not because I don&#039t believe it, but because the words have been exhausted and to be honest no one wants to hear it if there&#039s no way to reach him even when he is there.

The hope lies in the clearing of the darkness, when you start to realize that even though you can&#039t literally hear God, other forms of love reach you- the leniency of a teacher, the helpfulness of a colleague, an unexpected friendship, the connection to an honest song, the possibility of change. It&#039s in those moments when the darkness has burned off that you can finally see God.

Yes, we all have questions - none of us understand how or why God works the way he does, but He&#039s worth pursuing.

This guy has the right idea. =]

For crying out loud this is crazy... Let it be what it is!
an amazing song.
It has touched me in many ways! because i am and have been in the past in this spot.
I think the picture of God smoking is just his depiction of how he felt God was careless and unconcerned for him (which is how he felt... and feelings are i valid most of the time)

You can shake your fist and spit in his face... but when you come back his arms are always open. God very well could have asked him " where were you" If you wanted me you should have tried to make steps in faith! knowing i never leave you!"

But the part where he says " i&#039ve been calling for years and years and years... You got some kind of nerve"
Dont get it! But if he was talking about a person i would say he is a psycho and needs to be locked up or just drop it and move on!

But like it was said above It will be different for everybody. As long as it means something to you why does it matter what other people say.

sometimes i think its as if after he asks the inquisitive questions to God, God answers... with when u were lost and insecure you found me, or broken down on the floor. asking why the man waited so long, or now after all is lost did he look for him. makes more sense to me, then some other explanations

its about a guy who committed suicide because his girlfriend died. god shows up after he dies. the guy wonders why it took god so long when really all the guy had to do was ask god for help in the beginning. and in the end he is with his girlfriend but not sure how long they will be able to be together.

This song is not about God, which seems to be a common misconception. Just because the phrase "I found God" doesn't depict his actual finding God. It's an allusion. God is the etheral, almighty being, the savior for everyone that needs it. That's that the narrator is targeting - the saviour aspect. He treats this person as God, as the knight in shining armour, and then his anguished questions "Where were you?" suggest that this person has abandoned hin in his time of need. Although it could seem as though he talks of God, I don't think he does. God smoking a cigarette on the corner of First and Amistad is highly improbable.

Later, in the second verse, he mentions "No way to know how long she will be next to me". This implies that this person is someone with whom he was in a relationship with of some kind. This makes sense when tied with when the narrator mentions waiting for phone calls. God doesn't make phone calls. Humans do. Waiting for a phone call is a ditch that cannot be avoided in many relationships. Waiting for "years and years" may be an exaggeration to communicate his pain of being left alone. He needs this person and this person has hardly understood what he/she may have put the narrator through in his/her absence. He has waited for this person for so long and that person never bothered to reciprocate. Unexpectedly, they meet on the corner of First and Amistad - who knew? And that person is very much casual as suggested by the smoking and laconic way he/she said "Ask anything." This was the cue for disappointment, sadness and whatever other bittersweet emotions to be made understood for this person.

I don't believe that these are the woes of someone forgotten by God, because the lyrics don't quite fit to what he might feel IF he were neglected by God.

I think it's about finding God and being forced to turn to Him because the man in the song has lost someone so special. In the video, it shows the girl that he lost. Obviously the whole song is about how if his timing had only been a little different, maybe he could have saved her or things would have been different. Then, not only is he talking about his timing, he's also talking about God's timing. He's talking about how God found him and rescued him when he was in his most tragic and devastating time-when he needed God the most. He finally realized that he had to turn to God because there was nowhere else to turn, although God had been there for him all along waiting for him to realize it.

i love his voice..

I have 2 interpretations about the song. 1. Maybe about a drug addict who dies, reflecting upon his life and he questions God why he didn't save him from the get go.
2. It takes the P.O.V. of God questioning him about his faith and his passed life and why did it take him so long to give his life to God.

God is awesome & amazing & i think its great that there is a song that demonstrates how he is there for us.

Um hello first of all He says he found God smoking a cigarette....so doesn't that immediately bring up a this-is-anger-against-God flag? It's not like he's saying I was drinking a beer and I almost died and God saved me. This whole song is him (criticizing?) God for NOT being there when he needed him..."just a little late....Where Were You"
This sound like praise to you?
He's not saying he hates God or anything, he's just saying ok, i'm going through alot now where are you? and oh you never showed up, thanks.
OK

Can some one explain to me how these lyrics deict the fact that gid is a savior not some bum somking a cigarrete. In the song he is sayong tht god was nvr there for him when he was lost and all alone...?? So how does tht depict god as the savior and redemmer that he is..?? Also in his lyrics it sounds as if he is saying that god is saying "you found me" ..as if god is being caught in the wrong for not being there for him. Now i bought this song from itunes because i liked the beat of it but once i listened to the lyrics a soon feel not to lik it as it depicted god as a smoker who was nonchalant about saving this man and the world from there problems.... Now as a firm believer in christ i kno that at tmes it may seem that god has abanndoned us but he hasn't theirare times when he is juss testing uss in our faithfulness to him or is juss bringing usd through something that will juss make us stronger in the long run.

the way the song is written sounds like he is blaming God for not being there for him. he is always there. its just that we have to reach out to him. i keep rediscovering that. im always blaming God when its not even his fault. thats why i never understand the point of these sort of songs. i love the song though.

This whole talk about god. There is no almighty person out there. God is no person, no old man with a beard. God is an attitude, god is a way of living. God only exists because people believe in him. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or in Allah or in Buddha. The main thing is that you believe! God doesn't give you strength...it is the belief that awakens your own inner strength. The bible is no history book. There were no Adam and Eva...there was no Noah, Moses did not split the sea and Jesus did not walk over water. It is what lies between the lines. Only that matters. The bible only gives you a direction how to live your life. Also does the Koran or the Talmud. Religion is a good thing...if you see it in the right perspective.

Great song. But there are mistakes in the lyrics. I'm looking forward to the new LP. :)

This song isn't about God always being there. It is about how he never was. 'I found God', not, he found me. It says how He was too late. How we are always alone. It says, 'You Found Me', but 'Just a Little Late'.

God wasn't there when he needed him. He found him, but only when it was too late.

• Anonymous

Actually, It's about a woman who ends up in an accident and is waiting for him. If you look at it the other way, it's about God too.

• Anonymous

No, you guys. It means that he is waiting in his apartment, lying on the floor, and he's waiting for a phone call to see if someone-- we don't know who-- is okay.

He's really pissed at God because he left him alone when he really needed him.

Hence: Where were you? Where were you? Just a little late.
Meaning God was too late and something happened to the one he loved.

It's not all about how much God loves him, and blah blah blah blah blah.

From the horses mouth.....
"You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you're let down, sometimes you're the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I'm still right in the thick of it. There's some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest." From Isaac (thefray.net)

I think this is an excellent song! It really shows just how awesome and gracious our God is! He can find you even in the toughest situations and pick you up and help you start over. He forgives us for ANY sin we've ever done, you don't have to be perfect to be loved by God, he loves everyone anyway, no matter what they've done! Gee... don't we have an incredibly AWESOME God!!! Great song :)

P.S. I think these lyrics are pretty correct, only a few mistakes and missed out lines, but good job anyway!

on the corner of first and amistad
where the west
was all but one
all alone
smoking his last cigerette
i said where you been
he said ask anything

where were you
when everything was falling apart
all my days spend my the telephone
never rang
when all i needed was a call
never came
to the corner of first and amistad

lost and insecure
you found me
you found me
lyingon the floor
surrounded surrounded
whyd you have to wait
where were you where were you
just a little late
you found me you found me

but in the end
everyone ends up alone
losing her
the only one whose ever known
who i am
who im not
who i wanna be
no way to know how long
she will be next to me

lost and insecure
you found me you found me
lying on the floor
surrounded surrounded
whyd you have to wait
where were you where were you
just a little late
you found me you found me

early morning
city breaks
ive been calling
for years and years and years and years
and you never left me no messages
never send me no letters
you got some kind of nerve
taking all i want

lost and insecure
you found you found me
lying on the floor
where were you where were you

lost and insecure
youfound me you found me
lying on the floor
surrounded surrounded
whyd you have to wait
where were you where were you
just a little late
you found me you found me

whyd you have to wait
to find me to find me

These are the right lyrics....
Listened to the song and just wrote it down and make sure they were correct.

I Found God
On The Corner Of First And Amistad
Where The West
Was All But Won
All Along
Smoking His Last Cigarette
I Said, “Where've You Been?”
He Said, “Ask Anything.”

Where Were You?
When Everything Was Falling Apart
All My Days
Were Spent By The Telephone
It Never Rang
And All I Needed Was A Call
It Never Came
To The Corner Of First And Amistad

Lost And Insecure
You Found Me, You Found Me
Lying On The Floor
Surrounded, Surrounded
Why'd You Have To Wait?
Where Were You? Where Were You?
Just A Little Late
You Found Me, You Found Me

But In The End
Everyone Ends Up Alone
Losing Her
The Only One Who's Ever Known
Who I Am, Who I'm Not, Who I Want To Be
No Way To Know
How Long She Will Be Next To Me

Lost And Insecure
You Found Me, You Found Me
Lying On The Floor
Surrounded, Surrounded
Why'd You Have To Wait?
Where Were You? Where Were You?
Just A Little Late
You Found Me, You Found Me

Early Morning
The City Breaks
I've Been Calling
For Years And Years And Years and Years
And You Never Left Me No Messages
Never Sent Me No Letters
You Got Some Kind Of Nerve
Taking All I Want

Lost And Insecure
You Found Me, You Found Me
Lying On The Floor
Where Were You? Where Were You?

Lost And Insecure
You Found Me, You Found Me
Lying On The Floor
Surrounded, Surrounded
Why'd You Have To Wait?
Where Were You? Where Were You?
Just A Little Late
You Found Me, You Found Me

Why'd You Have To Wait?
To Find Me, To Find Me

Good job in changing it but there are still MISSING LINES....and the LAST TWO parts of the song are kind of wrong:

I'll point it out for you:

Early morning
