I'm getting the vibe that he's the guy on the side of this girl's relationship.
"It's never worth my time."
Because this relationship isn't going anywhere. It's just hooking up and casual.
"Do you see yourself in a crowded room?"
The girl is selfish and doesn't see the people she's hurting with her cheating.
"Can you fall asleep with a panic switch?"
He wonders about her conscience and how she sleeps at night,
"And I'll try to hold on tight tonight."
He's getting bored.
"I want to burn skin and brand what once was mine"
You can get that him and this girl have a history.
"I'm waiting and fading and floating away"
He's moving on to better things.
I didn't feel like analyzing every line, but that's what i understand of it.

Do you you think he might be paranoid of losing the one he wants/needs? Is he afraid she'll sleep with someone else?

Panic Switch is about the mental/emotional struggle of Japanese Troops during World War II to maintain a foothold on the island of Iwo Jima during the U.S. Marine assault.

Sorry but I agree with who ever said it was about a nervous breakdown. I mean think about it throughout the song this person is loosing it. ("When you see yourself in a crowded room...") If you are going through a nervous breakdown you panic and loose control especially when you feel crowded-in in a small place. All you want is to be isolated even from your closest friends, therefore at the end she's "waiting, and fading, and floating away." Also doubt it's about sex; I mean who panics and freaks out when they're having sex.

Um, lessee, not evil, not drugs, not mental illness. Only one thing left. Must be about sex!

it's actually not about either of those things.. but you're both headed in the right direction. Try again.

morons; all of you, you ever have a nervous breakdown or feel like one is coming, like you just want to throw the switch but cant and end up sinking into yourself. and not having support, so your answer is to lose it or "release the glitch". does everything have to be about drugs and devils? You must be cool!

Of course it's about the devil. If you can't understand it , it has to be right? Idiot.

I think it's about evil and drugs. Fading into the world of drugs and going to the devil.
