It's the night before Valentine's, and this song couldn't make me love my wife any more. I rarely tell her I need her or want her and love her. When I get home I'm going to get on my knees and tell how much I love her, need her, and want her. Thank you Eddie!

I saw the video on vh1 and literally walked up to put my nose in front of the tv. You see Eddie's voice is what I recognized first and hadn't heard the song before. I got on utube to figure the lyrics. It's whatever you make them out to be and for whom ever they may be for. I do know each of us has had or will have someone in their life to love or be loved by and that alone puts this unbelievable song in a category of it's self and if you don't get it try a little harder. I think of my parents who aren't going to be with me forever. So I sat down and wrote them a letter as tears ran down my face. It was a moment and I acted on it. Said my piece and thanked them for making me the man I am today! Take that granny Pearl. You got me again Eddie. What took me soo soo long? Mike n Chitown

I have been a pearl jam fan for a long time. I remember their 1st Album. Those were great days. About the time this new album was cut my mom got diagnosed with breast cancer. This song really hit me hard going through the stuggles my mother was going through. It really made me appreciate life even more. This song I feel was made for me and my mom my best friend. It comes to me as death how to appreciate all you have to be fortunate to count the one you love. This song brings jov and sadness to me I lost my mother right before Christmas and wanted her to keep breathing but God was ready for her to be with him. I stood by her side and watched her taker her last breath. I wanted her to stay with me but God had another plan. I am blessed to have a great mother and this song brought closure for me. I never thought it would end this way. I love this song thank you Pearl Jam!!!

to me this song is about addiction and sobriety and death. "Practiced all my sins, never gonna let me win...as I come clean." Being grateful, making amends, and learning to slow down and breathe...

My dad had a conversation very much like this with my mom before he died. He didn't like dying, but he didn't fight it either. He was satisfied with his life.
I think that's what this song's about: getting to the end of your life and being happy with what you've done.

A song can mean many different things to different people. As Clint Black said; a song can take you to another place in time, even change your state of mind. Usually the message I need to hear the most I find it in a song that I just stumbled across on the radio.

This one for me is not at all about death. As the one comment referred to Curly on City Slickers, it is that one thing. Not Curly's finger! But that one thing that is different for everyone. He said we have to figure it out for ourselves, and whatever that one thing is; is the key to life and happiness. Go Curly!

This song opened my eyes to how lucky I am to have the things I have that I take for granted every single day. I have a loving wife that supports everything I do, and is willing to give anything. She is my biggest fan! I sometimes get stuck on our differences, or her flaws, and do not appreciate her the way a husband should.

I also started counting the ones that I love, that are not family, and just stopped when I got to 11. How easy I forget where I came from and where I am now.

If I just stop and breathe....I can see how lucky I am. Then, take the time to appreciate it.

Life and death...and everything in between. The secret of life (according to that scene in City Slickers) is that one thing, the pass/fail test of faith that is each and every one of our lives. And the greatest grace of God is that this test is not a one-and-done sort of deal (that is, if I learned anything in my 32 years of living).

I feel as though this song is about death, whether it be death or the 'death' of a relationship.
It reminds me of my grandma, who is currently on her death bed, she can't breathe all that well, "Stay with me...Let's just breathe..."
But this song has helped me understand that "every life must end" and "I'm a lucky man, to count on both hands the ones I love, Some folks just have one, yeah, others, they've got none" - I have an extremely loving family and I appreciate it so much.
It also feels as though they describe my granny perfecly with the line "Nothing you would take, Everything you gave..." - it's my gran all over.
The line that got me was the last 2 lines "Hold me til I die, Meet you on the other side..." - I know she will look out for me when she passes, and i know that I will see her later in life..
