OneRepublic - Secrets Lyrics

Artist: OneRepublic

Album: Waking Up

  • Songwriters: Ryan Tedder

I need another story
Something to get off my chest
My life gets kinda boring
Need something that I can confess
'Til all my sleeves are stained red

From all the truth that I've said
Come by it honestly I swear
Thought you saw me wink, no
I've been on the brink, so

Tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insincere
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect line
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

My God, amazing how we got this far
It's like we're chasing all those stars
Who's driving shiny big black cars
And everyday I see the news
All the problems that we could solve

And when a situation rises
Just write it into an album
Send it straight to gold
I don't really like my flow, no, so

Tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insincere
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect line
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

Oh, got no reason, got not shame
Got no family I can blame
Just don't let me disappear
I'ma tell you everything

So tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insincere
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect line
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away

So tell me what you want to hear
Something that will light those ears
Sick of all the insincere
So I'm gonna give all my secrets away

This time, don't need another perfect line
Don't care if critics never jump in line
I'm gonna give all my secrets away
All my secrets away, all my secrets away

This is a fantastic song, just as OneRepublic is a great band. Keep it up. My one complaint, is that whoever made these lyrics did a really bad job. Lots of it is obviously incorrect, and it has at least three spelling mistakes, along with grammatical errors that OneRepublic would never have put into one of there songs. It's "Don't need another perfect lie", not "line". Why would OneRepublic have "line" rhyming with "line". They don't do that. And whoever wrote this got it wrong when he said that "Something that were like those years". If OneRepublic had that in their song, they would say "Something that WAS like those years", not "were". And it's clearly "That'll", anyhow, so it doesn't matter. Most of the lyrics on this site are great, though. Just not this one. And if you've read this far, thank you. You apparently have the bulldog tenacity that when you start something you finish it. Thank you.

This song is about writing songs. The singer/songwriter is saying he isn't going to strive to please people with his music. He could write interesting, groundbreaking songs, but most things in life aren't really that "epic," and he's not going to fake it just to top the charts. He doesn't care if critics find his work mediocre as long as he is honest. He is going to give all of his REAL secrets--his thoughts, feelings--away, no matter how overdone they are. He's saying he's doing what he's doing for himself, not for other's entertainment.
