Paralleling her final silver screen moments in Sparkle, the forthcoming Supremes-era drama hitting theaters August 17, the late Whitney Houston, who passed away this February, recorded a duet with co-star Jordin Sparks dubbed “Celebrate.” Produced by R. Kelly, the pulsating neo-doowop cut, cascading with honeyed howls from Houston and Sparks is bittersweet, Houston preaching “though we’ve been goin’ through changes/Just trying to make it from day to day” before a sweeping shoo-doo-doop harmony leads her into the pre-chorus: “Tonight don’t you worry about a thing/Just cash your cares away.” It certainly won’t be uncomfortable on the dancefloor. May you be celebrating forever in the great concert up in the sky, Houston.
