Waka Flocka took to Twitter recently calling for a ban of 21-year-old rapper Lil Xan. Waka Flocka’s harsh criticism came in response to an interview Lil Xan did with Revolt TV where he rated Tupac a ‘2 out of 10’ the way of ‘clout’, citing, “It’s boring music.”

“Lil Xan banned from hip hop” Waka Flocka tweeted. “GoD of Rap, Hip Hop, etc Tupac Shakur!!!” The sentiments garnered immediate support from a legion of rap heavyweights including DJ Akademiks, Young Chop and T.I. to name a few.

Waca Flocka tweeted out several thoughts on the matter, mentioning how Tupac helped him get through some of the most difficult times in his life, and how respect in the game is paramount. “Pac help me get thru childhood!!! Shit hurt to see the youth disrespect man that paved the way for all of us literally…I hope nobody overlook me accomplishments when I leave. Respect is everything, never forget that.”

Before being spanked by Wacka Flocka, Lil Xan came out and lambasted Revolt TV for manipulating the situation. “No more interviews,” he tweeted. “I love my fans to death but I can’t let these companies keep taking advantage of me and using me to further there shit, it’s fucked.”

The growing generation gap is a concern, but a public ban may be a little over the top. Lil Xan is entitled to his opinion, and he should be able to share it without fear of retribution. On the other hand, Wacka Flocka does touch upon an important element, which is knowing your history and respecting those that paved the way.

In the end Lil Xan doesn’t need to like Tupac, but if he can’t see the genius in Tupac’s writing then his inability to recognize quality lyrics will be his ultimate undoing; so no need for a ban, the matter will resolve itself.
