Riff: U2 – “Sleep Like a Baby Tonight”

Sep 16, 2014

You dress in the colors of forgiveness/Your eyes as red as Christmas/Purple robes are folded on the kitchen chair

from Sleep Like a Baby Tonight lyrics by U2

The pulsating 80’s synth intro, Bono’s bluesy melody, and his indictment of a possibly-priestly villain feel promising for the first third of the track, but there’s no big payoff – except for Bono’s awkward super-falsetto. The Edge also makes a completely unnecessary solo appearance at the tail end.
