Riff: Taylor Swift – “You Belong With Me”

Jan 2, 2013

She wears high heels, I wear sneakers/She’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers

from You Belong With Me lyrics by Taylor Swift

Pretty generic four-chord chug-along musically, but a cute message, at least. While I don’t believe Swift was ever “in the bleachers,” I buy it more than her slew of suspicious “it’s not meit’s you” jams. I’m skeptical, to say the least.

Riff by Karl Ernest

Karl is a Seattle-based musician and writer at SONGLYRICS; a veteran of both east and west-coast scenes, he has performed with the likes of The Ying Yang Twins, David Arquette, Wynton Marsalis, among others. But he's no stranger to seedy dives or house shows, either.
