Riff: Sara Bareilles – “Brave”

Aug 7, 2013

Maybe one of these days you can let your light in/Show me how big your brave is

from Brave lyrics by Sara Bareilles

The creator of that “Not Gonna Write You a Love SongRhapsody ad track is back, but this time with less wit. Bareilles plinks those damn four chords in an okay half-time Franti impersonation below a lukewarm empowerment message that feels more like being forced into a failed flash-mob than joyous.

This music maybe a little simple in it structure. That just gives the words the ability to shine and give you a powerful message. More songs should be this empowering to be exactly who you are and what you are. No questions. I share this song with everyone I know. Statement of the year with this song. Sara you made a winner with this one.

      Thanks for commenting, Fiona!

I don’t mind the simplicity, but something about that chord progression really grinds my gears – if it’s not paired with some mind-blowingly unique sound or lyrical theme, then I feel like I’m just hearing the same song I’ve heard a million times before (hell, in 2013 alone, “Roar” by Katy Perry was pretty much a carbon copy).

But, if that doesn’t matter to you, then who cares? To each his or her own!
