Riff: Brett Eldredge – “Don’t Ya”

Jul 15, 2013

Girl, you cut those jeans just right/I know you didn’t buy ’em like that/So baby, don’t even try that

from Don't Ya lyrics by Brett Eldredge

If you grade Eldredge’s ‘mental minefield of flirting’ jam on a country-pop curve, it scores quite well – intricate, well-woven, and pop-culture-ready without being too dated. Plus, Eldredge has great voice. It’s still a ball of mostly-predictable cheese, but isn’t that the point?

Riff by Karl Ernest

Karl is a Seattle-based musician and writer at SONGLYRICS; a veteran of both east and west-coast scenes, he has performed with the likes of The Ying Yang Twins, David Arquette, Wynton Marsalis, among others. But he's no stranger to seedy dives or house shows, either.

What is a RIFF?

A RIFF is a bonsai-trimmed song review in 300 characters or less, plugging your favorite lyric. Create your own, vote others to the TOP - the lyric is your oyster.
