Riff: David Bowie – “Heat”

Mar 12, 2013

And I tell myself, I don’t know who I am/My father ran the prison/My father ran the prison/But I am a seer, I am a liar

from Heat lyrics by David Bowie

Bowie’s current voice on Earth, Tony Visconti, has said this apocalyptic slice of Scott Walker rock is “certainly not about [Bowie].” And it is crooned from the menacing perspective of a son whose “father ran the prison.” But then, how do you explain this segue: ‘And I tell myself, I don’t know who I am’.
