The Roots of Censorship:

Per their Late Night With Jimmy Fallon audio jab at Michele Bachmann via the backbeat of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” as the Republican presidential candidate walked-on stage last November, NBC is screening all future walk-on music via ?uestlove and a series of three studio execs, the New York Post reported this morning.  A.k.a. censoring, a.k.a. being lame. Though, NBC could have axed The Roots altogether. So liberals should be thankful, right?

The Black Keys’ Black List:

Hot off praise from their seventh LP, El Camino, released to the world last Tuesday (December 6th), Akron power-blues duo The Black Keys are making like Coldplay and dodging deals with the big three streaming services, Spotify, Rdio and Rhapsody, according to Digital Music News. No word on why from The Black Keys camp or if they’re delaying said deals. But the most rational analysis would be to bolster digital and physical sales, amidst the ongoing battle between artist and digital service provider to contract fair royalty agreements. Will streaming kill the digital album star?

Skinny Love:

Talk of this year’s Grammy town, an account of his apparent “ridiculous” indifference for the ceremony and his four nominations, Wisconsin’s proudest cabin feverist Justin Vernon, a.k.a. Bon Iver, has a workout video of sorts making its way around the interwebs. More of a creative spec ad for YMCA trainer Jeff Rogers, Vernon and Rogers have a back and forth discussion of how they met, how Rogers is helping Vernon break a sweat in the name of rock and how to get past the fact that “the word ‘workout’ just sort of sucks,” according to Vernon. Meanwhile some lush time-lapse shots of rural Wisconsin carry everything along.

Adele Hates American Beer:

The British diva of neo-soul mandates that “North American beer is NOT acceptable” in her recently leaked tour rider (via The Smoking Gun), among other sandwich and cereal bar nonsense. Really? Even Mmmhop? Hanson jokes aside, clearly, she is mistaken as to what the true American beer portfolio offers, citing further that only the “best quality European lager beer i.e. Becks, Stella Artois, Peroni etc.” be on hand. But hey, at least she’s not harboring any M&M racism.

Some misfit human of which we’ll leave unnamed shot and killed John Lennon 31 years ago today, changing the course of music and culture forever in amounts we’re still trying to comprehend. You may say he was a dreamer, but he wasn’t the only one:
