“So this is Christmas/and what have you done/another year over/and a new one just begun,” sings the immortal John Lennon with Yoko Ono on their 1971 single about the Vietnam War, “Happy Xmas (War is Over).”

On this December day, two years prior John & Yoko declared a mission for world peace, taking out giant billboards in 12 cities around the world splayed with the following message, of which would become the basis for that ’71 single:

WAR IS OVER!
IF YOU WANT IT
Happy Christmas from John & Yoko

Forever an eery parallel, as there’s always a war in need of ending, or preventing from even happening, especially as our Celebrity Game-Show Host-in-Chief continues to get his grubby little fingers near America’s nuclear codes.

So here we are in another season of war, nearing Christmas, just commemorating the anniversary of Lennon’s death. “War is over, if you want it?”
