On Monday, Linkin Park tweeted the possible image of their to-be-revealed seventh LP; Photo: Twitter

For many the band Linkin Park is the epitome of aughts alt-rock: edgy, hard riff-driven and screamed semi-emo vocals. Yet it has been three years since the band’s last album The Hunting Partythat any new music has come forward from the hard rockers.

Starting last week, the band has been posting small clips of their studio sessions on Instagram revealing the intimate process of lead singer Chester Bennington forming the lyrics that will eventually make the way to the finished tracks. One on video he states the major intention of the album: “We’re just focused on writing really great songs that mean something to people. We’re trying to connect with people. We’re trying to make a record that has stellar songs that people want to listen to all the time.”

On Monday, the band took to Twitter to reveal the cover artwork of the album. The image features a sunset over crashing waves with the shadowy silhouettes of young boys rising out of the water — barely visible against the overwhelming sun beams. The artwork is somewhat cryptic and follows along the deeply emotional lines of the band’s lyrics for the new single “Heavy.”

I don’t like my mind right now
Stacking up problems that are so unnecessary
Wish that I could slow things down
I wanna let go but there’s comfort in the panic
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything’s about me
Yeah I drive myself crazy
Cause I can’t escape the gravity

The emo kid in us have always identified with the angst-ridden lyrics of Linkin Park and it appears that they are following suit in the same direction.  As jack.moore9823, one commenter on the band’s Instagram, puts it: “Please take inspiration from Hybrid Theory again I can remember all the words from all the songs still even to this day it was your best.”

Read the full lyrics below, followed by a trip down Hybrid Theory memory lane.

Heavy

I don’t like my mind right now
Stacking up problems that are so unnecessary
Wish that I could slow things down
I wanna let go but there’s comfort in the panic
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything’s about me
Yeah I drive myself crazy
Cause I can’t escape the gravity

I’m holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what’s bringing me down
If I just let go, I’d be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy

You say that I’m paranoid
But I’m pretty sure the world is out to get me
It’s not like I make the choice
To let my mind stay so fucking messy
I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same

I’m holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what’s bringing me down
If I just let go, I’d be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy

I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I’m not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything’s about me

I’m holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what’s bringing me down
If I just let go, I’d be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy
