Shania Twain has not released an album since her 2002 album Up!, but she’ll be releasing a new album, Now, September 29, reports Billboard. And on Friday, she released one of the singles, “Life’s About to Get Good.”

To help her overcome the throat illness, she went through therapy and wasn’t able to hit the studio for years. She eventually found a comfortable range, but it’s different than the classic Twain we know. It’s a little deeper and maybe a bit warmer.

“I’m a different singer now,” she told the Rolling Stone. “There was a lot of coming to terms with that. It’s been one of the obstacles in my life I’ve just had to learn to live with.”

She believes the disorder came about from stress, one big source of that from her divorce from music-business veteran, Robert “Mutt” Lange (who worked with Twain, Def Leppard, and Céline Dion). In fact, she said she told people to “forget about my other records” because she didn’t want to be associated with Mutt’s productions.

But none of that is holding her back, and she now seems to have a positive POV on life, judging by this new country-pop single. You can hear her reckoning with the divorce in the chorus:

Oh! Life’s about joy
Life’s about pain
It’s all about forgiving and the will to walk away
I’m ready to be loved
And love the way I should
Life’s about
Life’s about to get good

She said songwriting is “therapy,” sort of a catharsis.

“It helped me come to terms with a lot of things emotionally,” she said. “It’s sort of like when you finish crying. When you’re done, you’re done and you move on.”
