To celebrate Memorial Day Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform a rousing rendition of the classic, “Only Wanna be With You.”

Rucker who has been an adamant supporter of the military and its troops took the performance to another level by tweeking the lyrics to specifically honor those serving the United States.

Strumming an acoustic guitar Rucker opened with, “Army, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines, here’s to the Navy for protecting all our seas.” Then, being the quirky host that he is, Fallon added his own verse singing, “You serve with bravery, you serve with style/You serve with six pack abs, I can barely walk a mile.”

Both Rucker and Fallon went on to both honor and roast the troops who were in attendance, teasing them about drinking too much, oversharing on social media, and having one-night stands. Rucker quickly shifted gears and gave them a confidence booster by singing, “We’re here to honor you, and to perform, cause you look so damn good in those kickass uniforms.”

Stereotypes aside, the song was meant to usher in Fleet Week in New York City and give the soldiers a chance to relax and visit some tourist attractions around the United States.

While known as something of a one-hit wonder, Rucker has always been a supporter of the troops. In 2014 during his True Believers tour he held numerous performances at USO stops, and earlier in the week he was part of the Salute the Troops show at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

All said, it’s a good look and honorable thing to do for one of the biggest pop stars of the ’90s.
