Alton Brown is the KRS-One of the culinary arts, a guy whose passion for his craft is so deep that he made it a religion. We’ve all seen him on Iron Chef America describing ingredients and techniques that even a seasoned professional would have trouble identifying, and now his love for grub has crossed over into music.

What many people may not know is that in addition to being an encyclopedia on all things food, he’s also got a great sense of humor; twisted, almost diabolical at times. It’s a fresh part of his personality that many don’t get to see, but he’s looking to turn that tide with a recent Alton Brown is the KRS-One of the culinary arts, a guy whose passion for his craft is so deep that he made it a religion. video that has him singing about a vastly underrated snack, popcorn.

Using a Korg 37-Mini Key Synthesizer & Vocoder Alton Brown gives us a proto-rap style rundown on the merits of popped corn. Now it’s not entirely clear if he’s actually playing an instrument or not, but it’s definitely him getting his Speak & Spell on. Like a future robot from the past he sings:

When all that internal pressure grows
Out the direction it all goes
I know it sounds like a nasty term
All that white fluff is indo-sperm!

Alton eventually goes on to describe what it’s like to consume indo-sperm, and explains how this is his version of a pop song–pun fully intended. He sings:

Munching strong
While playing pong
Can’t go wrong
With this pop song

The video is a throwback in the truest sense of the word and affirms Brown as the Neil deGrasse Tyson of food science; the primitive technology and attention to detail giving the favorite movie-time snack some long overdue love.
