this song is not and never will be about a rat! it is really a song written for a young boy because he had a incurable disease.his name was ben,he died,there is now a charity set up for people with the same condiction.

it is about his pet rat... and its really sad.. one night his dad didnt tell him, and put out rat traps..
the next morning he got up and Ben was dead. He would get up at night and feed Ben and such like that.. its really sad!
