Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven Lyrics

Artist: Led Zeppelin

Album: Led Zeppelin 4 (Untitled)

  • Songwriters: James Page, Robert Plant

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold

And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Play this song backwards, download the MP3 of it and play it backwards. Most backward-masked song of all time. "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow" sung backwards by them has something with "oh sweet satan" or something in it.

Consumerism. I only have one word that describes the meaning of this song, but the popup says I need lots more words... here are my more words. I love this song and it speaks to a truth we all know to be present.

In contrast to todays musicians, Led Zeppelin songs all had a deeper meaning. They will always be around as they are one of a kind unlike a lot of todays musician who all sound the same. You can recognize a Zeppelin songs with just a few notes.

This song is about how sports teams try to buy championships by getting the best players but really the joy is in the game itself. It's so obvious. Why can't you people see it. Zeppelin was talking about the future with free agency looming. Oh, it's deep, man!

It was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant about cocaine and heroine... It was about a mutual friend, who used these drugs recreationally, same as them, and then she let it take over her life. It talks about how everything she does revolves around her getting money in any way possible to get high so that her life will "turn to gold" again, and she can refind her "stairway to heaven" (i.e. the subsatance to get higher)

I think the lady is trying to buy happiness using material things. She doesn't realize happiness and peace of mind comes from within. When she finally recognizes that we are all one people in spirit, and happiness can come from loving her fellow man, then she will have what she really wants. Until then, she'll keep trying to buy heaven.

This is about weed. She's buying her own death. It's mainly about her thoughts and stuff about being high. Eventually she'll die.
