Laura Story - Blessings Lyrics

Artist: Laura Story

Album: Blessings

  • Songwriters: Laura Mixon Story

We pray for blessings, we pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering

All the while You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears?
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You're near?

What if trials of this life
Are Your mercies in disguise?

We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough

And all the while You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears?
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You're near?

And what if trials of this life
Are Your mercies in disguise?

When friends betray us, when darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home
It's not our home

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears?
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You're near?

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst
This world can't satisfy?

And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise?

What does this song mean to you?

Interesting how 2009 was the year for you when you felt everything that is told in this very song. It is just the same how I felt when I first heard this song. And it was 2009 for me too. "And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, to them that are called according to his purpose."

I went through some pretty awful things back in 2009. At the time I didn't understand what it all would mean. I tried to keep positive and pray for God to show me. Slowly things began to take shape and turn around. It turned out it was all God's plan to change and improve many things in my life. I heard this song and it was such a blessing. It put it all in perspective. My first thought when I heard the song was "THAT's IT!!!" That's how I felt! How wonderful. The song has blessed me every time I hear it because I am reminded how much God loved me. How He took all the bad things and pain and turned them into a wonderful opportunity for change and growth. Praise God!

Love this song. The lyrics remind us that His ways are higher than ours and that we should not expect our prayers be answered in the ways we want. We are to trust Him for He loves us deeply and He is faithful.

Yes, indeed blessings come in all colors, shapes, and forms. Thank you LORD!

Going through heartache as my 55 yr. old niece battles for her life. I heard this song as I was driving to the hospital to spend time with her and it was the message I needed right at that moment.
