Imagine Dragons attempt a deeper meaning, here, but because they hold back it softens the impact. The tentative message tries to veil itself with quasi-gritty instrumentation, but there’s nothing mysterious or edgy about it. It’s simply a faltering message with no backbone.
It's a revolution, I suppose/Paint it red to fit right in
“Radioactive” has the most tasteful implementation of dubstep-inspired bass-synths into pop that I’ve heard, subtle enough to not seem too much like blatant fad-jumping. This slow, wubby groove fits the nuclear holocaust, “ready for the new age” sentiment as we end 2012; accessibly interesting.
