I think it probably is about Cyborg and Noodle, didn't 2D sorta... like... love her? Cyborg noodle is a fake replacement (Rhinestone), of Noodle (Valubale gem).

The song compares something real to something fake. Rhinestones mimic valuable gems, and are man-made. The line "nature's corrupted in factories far away" is also significant. It's a comment on how we live. We mimic and abuse nature while replacing its real beauty with fabrications composed of plastic. We replace natural diamonds with man-made rhinestones. The world of Plastic Beach depicts a dystopian future where we have neglected nature and let industry run rampant. Everything is made of plastic, and even the water is like bleach. Anyway, that is my interpretation.

the song is awesome and all the ppl above who said that the lyrics r not really meaningfull?? r u ppl crazy u wont co-relate a sentence to you untill u r not high or untill u dont dope,.its got a deeper meaning,its a depection of present and future.

As someone wrote: Rhinestone is something that looks like something that holds a great value but when you look close at it appear to be a cheap glitter.

Maybe it is about cyborg Noodle imitating real Noodle or any girl that seems to be real love/perfect match, but when you know her better she appears to be not to meet your standards?

Maybe it's the British accents, but I think the lyrics have some epic wordplay in these lines:
"I prayed on the unmovable
Yeah clinging to the Adams of rock"
I think this means that he had religious faith: God = the immovable, Adam is a creation story figure, and the rock is a frequent symbol of faith.

The consonant sounds are ambiguous enough that I think they intentionally lacked clarity. If you read the lyrics like this:
""I preyed on the unmovable
Yeah clinging to the atoms of rock"
it fits very well with the gargoyle/acid rain interpretation discussed by some here. The immovable gargoyle was preyed upon by the acid rain, or something similar. Clinging to the atoms could be referring to the erosive processes by which acid rain causes damage.

"With future pixels in factories far away"
The word choice in "pixels" has been bugging me for quite some time, and I'd like to offer a possible interpretation: pixels are a component of electronic displays, obviously produced in factories. Those factories are likely in emerging, exporting economies like China and India- far away. This jives with the "unseen consequences of pollution" interpretation discussed earlier.

In addition, pixels could be used to mean visions or scenes under the interpretation of far away = the future, especially since the line has "future" in it already. Given the previous line is about weeping, one could be weeping about the future pollution.

I believe it's referring to cyborg noodle. As previously stated rhinestones are cheap imitations (robo noodle) of something much greater (noodle). That you made with plastic power. I assume the you is murdoc and the plastic power meaning man made perhaps?

i believe it is about 2D missing Noodle. The fake Robo Noodle is being ssen by him as a Rhinestone...he is most likely referring to Robo Noodle as the scary gargoyle, because gargoyles were made to repel bad spirits, so in other sense, Robo Noodle was made as a bodyguard.made for the same use as a gargoyle was made for...but thats just me.anyone else agree?

Everyone seems to be forgetting the most important part of the song. Rhinestone eyes. Rhinestones are a form of gem called "diamond simulants", which are basically "fake diamonds". They look exactly like a real diamond but are usually made by artificial means. "Your products are by far the highest quality and are easily the closest thing to an actual diamond." Rhinestone is pretty and comes in all different colors and shapes, but it is still a cheap and very comman imitation no matter how you make it. Diamonds are rare and very valuable (the opposite). So looking at the first line, "I&#039m a scary gargoyle on a tower,".

Gargoyles on towers first started becoming popular in the 1200s,

"That you made with plastic power" What has the power to make plastic? Human-made industry, which is the opposite of and destroys nature.

Factories represent man&#039s industrial might, where we produce something fake (like plastic), and spew things into the air that destroy nature (which is real). Basically, the more fake things we build, the less naturual things we have. (consumerism FTW)

If somethings "far away" its not on top of you yet and you cant quite see exactly what it is, but it is definitely in the distance, and certainly there. Nothing is farther away than the future.

The chorus, "Your rhinestone eyes are like factories far away" translated using the above stated, means,

"Your fake cheap souls are like nature&#039s destruction in the future."

This is an obvious statement about the idustrialized world&#039s society. The more industrialized the world becomes, the more fake we all become, and the more we destroy whats natural in the world.

Notice the tones of 2d as he sings, hes almost monotone, bored, the same, "routine like", yet theres slight variations. In our modern society, we go through the same routines day after day, year after year, theres change, but its very little, and never leaves a certain scope. Like 2ds voice as he sings this. Just something to think about as you listen. Your all entitled to your own opinion, and me to mine. I simply chose to share is all.

rhien stone rain? acid rain,if so the chorus makes more sence as most of old buildings(that have gargoils)are corroding (acid rain) due to carbon emetion from plastic factories (plastic power) would also explain most of the song like drive on engines (air polution) washed in bleach(acidic water) what to do with the heat,the waves r rising for this time of year (global warming) nature corrupted in factories.I think the song is mostly about our nature which we r turning in to plastic

This is song is just gorgeous, but the meaning could easily be anything. It just depends on what you wish to see it as.

It is one of the reasons I'm so fond of the Gorillaz.

Anyway, as for myself, parts of it seem to be about humans trying to find things that promise to solve all your problems easily and parts seem to be about our general disregard for the abuse we are committing on our beautiful earth.

And like others have said, it can also can be a partial ballad to see the land again, Murdoc, Noodle, and something about Robo-Noods.

Regardless of its meaning, just enjoy it!

Didnt Murdoc FORCE 2-D into Plastic Beach? I think 2-D is looking back at everything that happened, ya know? The thing with Noodle and that stuff. This song is a thinker, but there's never a right or rong answer in the world of music ^_^ but every idea is counted, and none are discluded.

This song first makes me think of betrayle(not how you spell that) which it is what the song is about. First and foremost Mudz is a traitor noodle is alive but still not found and what ever happen to Russel. Reminds me of El Manana with the "Helicopters fly over the beach, Same time every day, Same routine. A clear target in summer when skies are blue" With Noodle being shot down by helicopters in thier old home.

I think he is talking to commercialization when he says "im a scary gargoyle on a tower, that you made with plastic power". They promise happiness by simply buying products but it seems unattainable still, hence "your rhinestone eyes are like factories far away".

Just a guess, and just a beginning but it fits with the theme of the album.

I dont know about it being the "best song on the album" but it is a great song. All I have to say is Classic Gorillaz.

This song is absolutely wonderful. It's just beautiful, pure gold.
Now, as for the meaning... That's hard to tell. Perhaps the whole 'Your rhinestone eyes are like factories far away' line could be something to do with tears. Rhinestones are shiny, as are tears, and I guess you could say eyes are factories in the sense that they create tears.
But, of course, this is just pure guessing and imagination. 8)

It's an amazingly beautiful song. I'm not exactly sure of the meaning, but...the beat is extremely catchy. ^__^
