Gloria Estefan (born Gloria María Fajardo García on September 1, 1957) is a Grammy Award-winning American singer and songwriter. She is in the top 100 of best selling music artists with over 90 million albums sold worldwide, with 26.5 million in the United States alone. She has won seven Grammy Awards, becoming among the most successful crossover performers in Latin music to date.
Gloria Estefan was born Gloria María Fajardo García on September 1, 1957 in Havana, Cuba and raised in Miami, Florida, United States. Estefan's maternal grandfather Leonardo García, immigrated from Pola de Siero, Asturias, Spain who settled in Cuba at the age of 17 and married a woman from Logroño, La Rioja, Spain and had a daughter, Gloria. Later her parents Jose Manuel Fajardo and his wife, Gloria, fled to Miami, Florida, during the Cuban Revolution. A few years after they moved, her father joined the US military during the Vietnam War.
