ermm, possibly afraid of identity in order to embrace fame?

To me, my interpretaion is how she is in love with someone, and she's too scared to take that leap and give herself wholy, (her entire self which the ultimate sacrifice), hense her heart pounding and beating so fast like a rabbits. So she needs to be stronger and braver, like a lion, and be able to trust in herself to let herself fall completely, unafraid.

i think it means she sacrifising everything to be with her lover, and that its a gift, it comes with a price, the price is him loving her sompletly and totally back

well actually this song does have religious connotations... haha, but this song is NOT about Satan, and anyone who believes so is clearly part of the brainwashing cult that is Fundamentalist Christianity. I'm an Orphist personally, and if you want to look at this song in a spiritual way it clearly bears old-world Pagan themes. To gain something, something must be given (a common pagan law), King Midas who had the power to turn things to gold by touch (a pagan myth). And for the record, even the bible mentions sacrificing lambs to God (so do Pagan scriptures for that fact), but its hardly a satanic theme. Besides, its hardly a literal song, themes such as sacrifice are metaphorical, not a literal sacred offering (unless Florence + the Machine is a heavy-duty old-school Pagan band, and as much as I'd love that, I doubt it very much. I think you'll find the world's a far more beautiful and divine place when you stop seeing Beelzebub everywhere you turn.

Actually Florence and The Machine is Florence Welch plus a few others (different ones on different tracks) that are backing her... So techincally is a band....

And the beauty of music (and art in general) is that it's meaning lies with in the listeners interpretation. Yes it's true that a songwriter has something in mind when they write it, but no one can tell you what a song means to you. Music is freedom in that sense. Just because you take it one way and someone else another, doesn't mean either is wrong... so chillax people and just enjoy the music
