Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home Lyrics

Artist: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Album: Up From Below

  • Songwriters: Jade Allyson Castrinos, Alex Ebert

Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my ma and pa
not the way I do love you
Well, holy moly, me-oh-my, you're the apple of my eye
Girl, I never loved one like you

Man, oh, man, you're my best friend, I'll scream it to the nothingness
There ain't nothin' that I need
Well, hot and heavy, pumpkin pie, chocolate cake and Jesus Christ
Ain't nothin' please me more than you

Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you
Oh home, let me come home
Home is whenever I'm with you

La, la, la, la, take me home
Mother, I'm comin' home

I'll follow you into the park, through the jungle, through the dark
Girl, I never loved one like you
Moats and boats and waterfalls, alley ways and pay-phone calls
I've been everywhere with you, that's true

Laugh until we think we'll die, barefoot on a summer night
Never could be sweeter than with you
And in the streets we're runnin' free like it's only you and me
Jeez, you're somethin' to see

Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you
Oh home, let me come home
Home is whenever I'm with you

La, la, la, la, take me home
Daddy, I'm comin' home

Jane, Alexander
Do you remember that day you fell out of my window?
I sure do, you came jumpin' out after me
Well, you fell on the concrete and nearly broke your ass
And you were bleedin' all over the place and I rushed you off to the hospital
You remember that?
Yes, I do
Well, there's somthin' I never told you about that night
Why didn't you tell me?
While you were sittin' there in the backseat smokin' a cigarette
That you thought was gonna be your last
I was fallin' deep, deeply in love with you and I never told you 'til just now

Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you
Oh home, let me come home
Home is when I'm alone with you

Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I'm with you
Oh home, yes, I am home
Home is when I'm alone with you

Alabama, Arkansas
I do love my ma and pa
Moats and boats and waterfalls
Lay awake 'til break of dawn

Home is wherever I'm with you
Home is when I'm alone with you

i think in the second to last stanza its "alley-ways and pay phone calls" not "lay awake until the break of dawn"

Great song! A few of the words here are wrong, not a big deal although her name is Jade not Jane.
    I do love this song.

when i am on the road, i picture me and my beagle whistling this song together. i would never bring religion in at all. that comment is ridiculous. thats like saying maybe the pumpking king is upset that pumpkin pie doesn't do it for this guy, or maybe entenman's is pissed cuz choclate cake don't do it either. chill out for ch#$t sake. everyone was so positive on here and then some whistling blower gotta shake sh#t up. mission accomplished buddy. impose your will on people who care.

everybody loves tht warm fuzzy feeling they get from love, and this song captures it.

ps-ppl need to relax about the whole jesus thing, this is a love song between two ppl and theres nothing wrong with a person being more pleasing then Jesus.

If you've ever been in love you know exactly what this song means... I just heard this song and am considering putting it as my wedding song... because when you are in love, they are your home, no matter where you are. He is my home, and that's how I've always felt about him, this song says it all for me. If there was a song of my heart or of my love for him, this would be it.

Its awesome song, right now i'm far away from my home and when i listen to this song something is happening inside me and tears are coming to my eyes!

  • thestanger

am muslim and i do love this song, i think there is no deal with relegion here.. it's about familly , love and love :p

  • Anonymous

Why would this have something to do with religion? I think this song has a clear message which is love, not something as inconsequential as Christianity. On a related note: I LUV IT

  • Anonymous

I love this song very much!! It's fabulous and close to the heart. :D :D :D.

COOL SONG WHATEVER IT MEANS!!! AND YES I MEANT TO TYPE IN LARGE LETTERS I AM SHOUTING!

  • Anonymous

this song is SO amazing. i don't think people should read so deeply into it...it is what is says. it's a love story that is being sung.

  • Anonymous

Love this song......On the religious comments I think maybe your looking at this from the wrong angle this song is about the feeling you have in a new relationship or with the love of your life. This person consumes you and it's beautiful because you haven't connected with another human on that level... The lyric isn't comparing the two because the relationships are different it's just used to show the intensity in the relationship all the things mentioned bring pleasure but the pleasure you feel in that moment is greater.....just my opinion.

  • Anonymous

    :) so warming.

yet one comment about people caring more about real people and not Jesus, who may or may not have ever lived, and there is some bite.

cool it. whatever your beliefs, this song is chill and totally honest. it's pure, free thought, and it's hard to find that in just about anything these days.

To the person who says that the lyricist never "tasted the love of christ" or something, shut the f-- up. It sounds like you don&#039t even know who christ (allegedly) was. People like you f--- s--- and should keep their shi--y opinions to themselves because no one gives a sh-t about an invisible man.

Great video & song. Hey anonymous! The love of Christ is "passion", which in its turn means "suffering", and here in the song they're just singing about "love", the carnal one. It's like saying: "Oh, so good to be with you despite life problems". Take it easy, it's just a song! And in the end it makes us happy, 'cause it makes us feel like wistling around, if you know what I mean...

You know what's sad, is that I think jesus would be disapointed that instead of appreciating the whimsical lovey feeling this song gives you your to focused on a lyric. This song fills you up with a emotion, the warm and fuzzy feeling. The youtube video with the little girl and dad singing it, absolutely amazing! And to be honest I love my kids more than jesus and I adore there imperfections, if everyone was perfect it would be a pretty dull world. Sounds lke a shallow cop out to think love should be saved for perfection.

  • Anonymous

I think the lyricist never tasted the love of Christ; if he had, he would have never said there's is a thing that is more pleasing than Jesus.

A lovely and fun song. Sung as a duette between a longtime captor and captive. The captive misses home, but she's been a captive so long, home is now werever she and her captor happen to be. She tried to escape once by jumping out of a second story window but was badly injured and recaptured. Her captor is the only love she's ever known. She no longer desires freedom.

I LOVE this song! When I first heard it on the radio, all I could picture was a bunch of cowboys or hippies singing it in a circle playing the trumpet! Haha! But once I watched the music video, I totally figured it out! And I wanted to know the name of the song, so I called onto the radio station, and asked them what the name of that song that they had been playing lately with trumpet solos, and they told me to check out Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and once I heard the name of the band I knew that it was the right song, because the name of the band was just as weird as the song'! And now it seems to play every time that I am heading off to lacrosse practice, or to goountain biking!!

Saw them last night in Santa Cruz. One of the few shows where people were dancing and really getting into the music. A no ego show. Very fun, made you feel like a little kid dancing with all your friends. They even let a lot of us on stage for the last song. Totally cool people. They even invited a band they met on the streets of SF the night before to play before the show.

I don't like this song. Jesus Christ should be more pleasing than any person. Jesus is PERFECT... people aren't.

I absolutley love this song when you love somebody and you read these lyrics it goes straight to the heart.

  • Anonymous

I love this song so much! Ever since I heard it the day before yesterday, I've played it 642 times. x Someone should hijack a really top radio station that plays crap Jonas Brothers music and just play Mumford & sons, Kings of Leon and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros all day long! (:
