Duran Duran - Ordinary World Lyrics

Artist: Duran Duran

Album: Duran Duran 2 (The Wedding Album)

  • Songwriters: Nicholas James Bates, Warren Cuccurullo, Simon John Charle Le Bon, Nigel Taylor

Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue
Thought I heard you talking softly
I turned on the lights, the TV, and the radio
Still I can't escape the ghost of you

What has happened to it all?
Crazy someone say
Where is the life that I recognize?
Gone away

But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive

Passion or coincidence once prompted you to say
"Pride will tear us both apart"
Well now prides gone out the window
Cross the rooftops, run away
Left me in the vacuum of my heart

What is happening to me?
Crazy someone say
Where is my friend when I need you most?
Gone away

But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive

Papers in the roadside tell of suffering and greed
Fear today, forgot tomorrow
Besides the news of holy war and holy need
Ours is just a little sorrowed talk

(Just blown away)

And I don't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive

Every world is my world
(I will learn to survive)
Any world is my world
(I will learn to survive)
Any world is my world
Every world is our world

What does this song mean to you?

Does anyone know if Duran Duran wrote the lyrics? And if they did was there a loss or a reason behind it? I lost my boyfriend in a car accident.. on a Thursday, it will be two years ago in 10 days, and basically my whole experience is in this song- and has also encouraged me to try and find my ordinary world! It has touched me so much that i wanted to knwo the inspiration ... the true story if there is one behind the lyrics!

Not a big Duran Duran fan but this song is an aching depiction of loss, resignation and hope. The restrained vocals add to the genuinely wrenching feel we've all experienced at least once in our love lives.
This song got me through the year of my divorce!

I Love Love Love, this song by Duran Duran ! ! !
Not necessarily a huge fan of the band itself, but do remember a number of
big hits in the 80's. The melody of the song and arrangement is awesome.

It just kills me the way Simon knocks the vocals 'out of the park'.
He sings, He cries, He soars like an Eagle . Perfection .

The lyrics are a sorrowful lament with a positive outlook for tomorrow .
    And it gives me H O P E .
