Comments and Song Meanings

It means that he has changed to something unartistic, no longer beatiful, meaningless, and hopeless. He needs help, deperately looking for an exit, he wants to change, he cant stand who he is.
He wants to "bury" his shortcomings, he needs to leave the past and start a new beginning (the pouring rain). He hoping that by burying the old things that a new way of life, less troubled than before, will come to him (seeds, roots, grass). But its never that easy.

every single album at least has a couple of good songs. they mature with every album too. this song is really good. unlike a lot of their songs.

I think that Brand New is one of the single most amazing bands out there. I have to give props to my best friend who sent me this song one day, And I'm so glad that he did. I went and downloaded the rest of their songs and albums right away. I just really don't see why everyone has to fight on the songs and stuff, I mean, everyone has their own opinion on music. Let people comment on what they think of the band, and appreicate it even if it isn't great. :)

This is such a great song. Anyone have any thoughts on the meaning? I love to hear people's takes on the meanings behind Brand New songs.

When I first listened I didn't like this album, cause I didnt like the new style. But it DOES grow on you - now I really like it :)

When I first listened to this album I hated it too. Just like The Devil and God album, but it grows on you. Look at it this way, Taking Back Sunday and Brand New came about the same time on Long Island. TBS lost members and reformed about 4 times, and changed there sound to be a mainstream band, and they truly suck. Brand New is making the music that they want to, and they've matured with their music and I think it's great. Even Your Favorite Weapons lyrics, written by them when they were 17, were so much better than Tell all Your Friends. Every time Brand New comes out with a new album, it's like a Brand New band too fall in love with again.

God, I am so sick of people claiming their fan status. Yes I was a fan before Deja Entendu as well, but you dont see me running around saying it. Every single one of their albums is tough to listen to at first. This is nothing new. I'd say the only one that I liked from the very first day I got it was Deja Entendu. Hence the reason it's tied with 40 Oz to Freedom as my favorite album of all time.

At first i was like, what were they thinking? i hated all of the songs because it didn't sound like their old stuff. But as i started listening to the songs, it really grows on you. If you were a true brand new fan, then you would love everything they do and accept the change that they have taken. i love this band so much! Been listening to them since third grade so...five years! Going to see them November 15th, their my birthday present :]

I love brand new and i love the new album, its just different thats all. People would be slating it if it was just the same as everything they had done before. I like how their sound changes over time but always keeps the same poetic lyrics that we love. They are a genre of their own.

This is yet another example of how Jessy is maturing. Brilliant album, and I've been a fan long before Deja was released, unlike a great number of fans, not that it's worth a damn but for anyone thinking 'old fans' still cling to one album, I personally think this one is brilliant, a lot like Modest Mouse and MewithoutYou, and Jessy loves MewithoutYou so its no surpises he'd be inspired by their sound.
Don't forget Devil & God got a slating like this by ignorant fans that grew to like it.

This album is a very new sound for Brand New. I appreciate their work, but this album seemed like a significant disappointment. It was strange listening to Brand New playing with so many new and different sounds. It'll grow on any Brand New fan in time, whether that's a good thing or not is up for debate.
