Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror Lyrics

Artist: Biffy Clyro

Album: Only Revolutions

Genre: Rock

  • Songwriters: Simon Alexander Neil

You say I love you, boy
I know you lie
I trust you all the same
I don't know why

'Cause when my back is turned
My bruises shine
Our broken fairy tale
So hard to hide

I still believe
It's you and me 'til the end of time

When we collide we come together
If we don't we'll always be apart
I'll take a bruise, I know you're worth it
When you hit me, hit me hard

Sitting in a wishin' hole
Hoping it stays dry
Feet cast in solid stone
I've got Gilligan's eyes

I still believe
It's you and me 'til the end of time

When we collide we come together
If we don't we'll always be apart
I'll take a bruise, I know you're worth it
When you hit me, hit me hard

'Cause you said love was letting us go against what
Our future is for many of horror
Our future's for many of horror

I still believe
It's you and me 'til the end of time

When we collide we come together
If we don't we'll always be apart
I'll take a bruise, I know you're worth it
When you hit me, hit me hard

I agree that the British are, and have been, the biggest influence on music in the world, but don't try and justify that claim with westlife, an Irish boy band!

I wish people would realise that Biffy must have given Cardle permission to release it and that Biffy knew exactly what they were doing. Hearing Cardle singing it on the radio actually got me interested in Biffy Clyro so if anything, Cardle helped them. I prefer the Biffy version though, but some prefer Cardle's version, it's all a matter of opinion. Jeez lay off.

Biffy rules, to the veiwer who thoughts were wrong this song is not matts and if it was then biffy made this much better but its not his song he ruined it, and the british do know there music and just because 1 of a million thought wrong dosent mean a nation is wrong :)

Oh wow.. This song is by Biffy Clyro.. Matt Cardle RUINED it.. He's feminine voice absolutely violated this beautiful song!
I'm a massive Biffy fan and to say that this is Matt Cardle's song originally is a complete insult to Biffy, Matt Cardle doesn't have the pure brilliance that Biffy does to create something as amazing as Many of Horror.

    No.1 on the Official Chart!

About it being about a boy who is beaten up by his girlfriend? Where is the female gender reference?
So it *could* be about either a boy or girlfriend hitting him.

"British have a limited musical knowledge"

Seriously wtf.... just a few bands to mention here... The Beatles, arguably the greatest band to have existed, creating new genres of music, Queen,Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Oasis the greatest rock + roll bands EVER!!! not to mention the who the kinks, biffy clyro, arctic monkeys, sex pistols, then there's elton john, and david bowie, mick hicknall, robbiw williams, take that, westlife. See the theme, there if its British... its the best

  • killing-cupid

To the comment saying that the British have a limited musical knowledge..That is such an ignorant, stereotypical comment to make. Especially as Biffy Clyro are in fact Scottish and therefore British.
    F*g.

@Anonymous december 24, biffy clyro should sue you for saying that this is matt cardles, you really think that an xfactor winner good make a song this good inside the short amount of time of winning and to now?

  • Anonymous

Lol matt cardle didnt write this song. Its Biffy Clyros song. The proper version.

  • Anonymous

Isn't this a Matt Cardle song?
This band have ripped him off and he should sue them.

Biffy Clyro are from Kilmarnock, Scotland, and that is where I live :D
According to someone at school they went to the Grange Campus, in the Grange but it wasn't the Campus back then, it was only made new in 2009. But someon else says they went to James Hamilton Academy or Kilmarnock Academy coz apparently they lived in New Farm.

To me, it's about a relationship in which one person no longer cares or wants to continue it, and the other (whose point of view the song is written from) still believes they can stay together and is willing to take the pain to salvage what they have.

  • Anonymous

sounds like there're splitting up to me, maybe she cheated and he cant deal with it but is willing to take the pain, anyway just a thought

actual meaning of song in interview with biffy

  • Anonymous

One of the greatest songs ever recorded. Biffy Clyro are "the everyday" person's band. Thank god for them.

  • Anonymous

i love this song, the lyrics are really meaningful.
i think the main character loves his girlfriend/wife so much, he can't bear to leave her, no matter how much pain she causes him. my favourite part is: 'i still believe, it's you and me till the end of time' i think it shows the main character having high hopes for him and his girlfriend - even if she abuses him to the point where he's in pain. the lyrics are beautiful, people should think about them more, and try to understand them xxxx

    @ anonymous May 25th

I don't think you should take the meaning of the song that literally.

The way I interpreted it was more like: The main character loves the other character very much, even though the relationship they're in is falling apart. Although he realises he can't really go on he chooses to fight to the bitter end, because of the simple fact that he really can't imagine life without the other person. Their future is 'for many of horror', because he knows that it is harsh path that he has chosen.

The fact that he is cognisant of their apparent downfall, but chooses to ignore it is clearly shown with the ' sitting in a wishing ' line.

He'll take a 'bruise' because she means that much to him.

But that is just my opinion :) I suppose the only one who really knows what it means is the author.

Me and my friend think it might be about abuse, that the only time they get together is when she hits him (emotionaly or physically) "When we collide we come together, if you we don't we'll always be apart" and if shes not hitting him then they're not ever together and that if she's going to do it then "hit me hard" to make it last."I'll take a bruise i know you're worth it" It's really sad when you think of it like that but it makes sense. Probably wrong but whatever! Big Biffy Fan!! xx

  • Anonymous

It just reminds me of a friend of mine and his "girfriend", but it's different, 'cause he doesn't want to accept the truth and he keeps on lieing to himself and waiting for her... Well, I think that's just a common case...

  • Anonymous

I can really relate to this, my boyfriend has a habit of hurting me so much that I'll cry for days, but I've never dared leave him because he means so much to me. You can't blame some people for being stupid, it's love.

  • Anonymous

This song is so beautiful. Its about a girl who hurts a guy (could be emotionally or physically) but he doesn't even care coz he loves her so desperately. The end just makes me cry coz its like he's screaming it out,'when you hit me, hit me hard' its just so desperate and emotional.

I heard this the other day when my dad won his appeal and had his conviction for childe abuse overturned and it just makes me feel so sad but happy at the same time, music is like that I think.
    Amazing song.

I love this song. I've always loved the bands music and this is deffo one of my favs. Relates so much to me and can't stop playing it when on my own or walking my dog :)

  • Anonymous

it's simply about abuse either between father and son or maybe about domestic abuse with the male as the victim, whatever it is, it is haunting and powerful

  • Anonymous

How about just saying it is ambiguous - it can be seen from different points of view, and was written to be that way.
It could be about him and his dad, or it could be about a troubled relationship. I think it is written to mean both.

  • Anonymous

I love the fact that you all think this song is about you and your tortured souls.

  • Anonymous

actually when i wrote this song i was thinking about my boy friend, whom i dedicated it to ^^

great song, haunting and powerful, got me into arcade fire wake up, as I thought the harmonies towards the end were taken from the film "where the wild things are", 2 great tracks, I'm happy

not the right song to listen to just after you've split from a long term relationship.... as i found out the wrong way!

  • Anonymous

Overblown production and hackneyed rantings of someone who just can`t get along with the person he/ she thought they truly loved. They can`t get each other out of thier systems not until someone new comes along.

  • Anonymous

its not about abuse its about a difficult relationship "when you hit me hit me hard" meaning saying something you know will hurt the other person

  • Anonymous

Its not about abuse its about a relationship where you love someone so much but argue etc, "when you hit me, hit me hard" means like saying something you dont mean knowing that it will hurt the other person, you know them so well you know what to say to push the buttons

  • Anonymous

'Ill take a bruise, i know your worth it
when you hit me, hit me hard'
    is talking about abuse.
    harsh...

Fantastic song, really resonates when you've got things on your mind. The melancholic opening transcends into hope as the song progresses.

  • Anonymous

This is the best kind of song for when it is REALLY raining, or you have troubling thoughts. If that makes sense.
    Perfect movie ending.
