its not based on poe's anabell lee, but that poem was the insperation for the album. they say so in an interview.

JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE. The album takes place in the late 19th century. It's not based on Poe. The artist thinks he killed annabel but really he's gone mad and he's hallucinating so since he's gone mad, annabel kills him. I've read the booklet that comes with the CD it's called The Diary Of A Sketch Artist.

It's based around the year 1849 when Edgar allen Poe wrote his poem Annabell Lee for his wife that died two years earlier. It's a concept album every song is like a chapter of one story. -Staley
