The four band members met in Mandeville, Louisiana, a small suburb north of New Orleans, and within 15 months were signed to a record deal with Wind-up Records. The band's name came from a passage within the Bible about the 12 stones that were collected by Israel after crossing the Jordan River. Joshua 4 (specifically Joshua 4:8).
